A mate gave me a GMC generator a couple of days ago and the problem was quickly obvious, somebody had been fiddling with the carby. Tell tale was the end of the governor arm and spring had been bent so the carby could be removed. It fired up and ran well, probably a bit rich which was obvious by the smoke, but it was generating well and ran my drill on high speed no problems. The issue is the float needle not sealing. It is a steel tip and it looks like a brass seat in the carb. I would expect it to have a viton seat and I'm not sure if this has been removed. I have tried a couple of viton tipped needles but it still won't seal. I doubt it is worth hunting a carb for it so it will probably end up going to the scrap unless somebody has any suggestions. Being GMC it is probably not worth wasting any more time on it.
