Hi Walter P
Glad you have the SB45 bug as well.
I'm not sure if I can mention business names on this forum under the rules.
However if you send me a private message from under the My Stuff section I can give you details.
I can say though I am doing my own spray job and finishing.
Really just getting the sandblasting and chrome work outsourced.
The green hammertone I am using is Hammerite Dark Green Hammer Finish. Most good paint stores have it.
Although I got mine from Masters hardware. It can be sprayed or brushed on. I am spraying at a mix of 15% Thinners to 85% Paint.
I am spraying 3 to 4 coats to build up the hammer finish deeper. It seems to be working. I am not a spray painter by any stretch but am loving the challenge and learning of it all.
Please send through some photos of your mower

Here is a pic of the SB when I first bought it, Im not sure what year it is but I think its from around the 1975-1980 range. I have 2 SB one is my dads which I am not going to touch as everything on it is completely original it has a 2.5 hp B&S on it and it is what I have previously been using as a working mower. I will post some pics soon with the parts stripped. When I do I will get some close-ups of the cogs etc. as I am not sure if they will need replacing or not.

Cheers

Hi WalterP, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have another Scott Bonnar Model 45 owner aboard. grin

As this thread is already a mixed thread with Jamskin2 and Manch, I would ask you to start a new thread for your restoration in: Forums > Restoring and Customising > Reel-Type Mowers. This will be then create a good archive of your resto. wink

Could you please post some more pics of your Scotty.... from different angles; one of the cylinder reel, one with the chain-case cover removed, and a close-up of the sprockets where they are not covered by the chain.

Also, can you please post the complete string of numbers stamped into the air-cowling of the Briggs. This will allow us to give you its date of the engines manufacture.
Just from what I can see, I suspect it be a slightly earlier machine that the date range you have posted, and is unusual that it has Scott Bonnar "Lawn King" handle bars fitted. Your pics will help confirm an approximate date of the chassis manufacture and that, with the engine date, will help narrow that down. wink
Looking forward to your next posts, Once again, :welcome:
cheers2

Please do not PM me asking for support. Please post your questions in the appropriate forums, as the replies it may receive may help all members, not just the individual member.
Kindest Regards, Darryl grin

Just a correction on the original part of this thread and that is that "Manch's" Model 45 was never fitted with a Briggs & Stratton as suggested by someone here. Manch's mower was fitted with a HK25 Kirby Lauson. The evidence is that the Briggs 3HP unit could not be fitted with those handle bars as the tank would've been in the way, also going by the twin brass ID plates that are fitted to the chassis, SB were not using B&S engines at this point in time. They were Kirby's across the whole range. When SB changed to the Briggs units they had to modify the handle bar to clear the large tank that was fitted to the 3HP powered units.

Hope this clears that matter up.

I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
