hi Chas, the problem of engine replacement on the older mowers is usually space....yours would be fitted with a smallish side valve motor which B&S dont make anymore, the new engines are OHV, and are much bigger in the head area, which makes for issues on fitting. You may be better getting yours reco'd, they where generally a better engine in the first place.
