That's good NornK, but this is my mates engine and I think he will be happy with new rings, gaskets and hoses and an old muffler and decompresser I had. This engine had old big metal carb.
My engine will have LM carb and electronic ignition....

I found out where that wire goes, it was in first pic of the dirty engine.

Way to go Speedy, utility with electronic ignition and an LM carb, with general maintenance over the years it will outlast both of us.No reason why these won't be still running in another 50 years, that is if they can still get fuel in 50 years

Finished my frame. I'm posting just to show new people how easy it is to have a go. Main thing is you start with a going mower.......
I've ordered new rings for my mates engine as I'm doing that up first..........
Now getting his frame parts out of the molasses bath.
Just getting things together, a little at a time...... it then all adds up to two nice mowers.....................
but I have been wrong before........

Had a bit of rain in Bundy mon tuesday...........
Lucky I just mowed the lawn with my new 2nd hand Victa 4 stroke.............

cheers

My mates motor has new rings and a good spark now even just by hand, everything else cleaned ..............
Now ready to do his base....... he welded the side piece in. It's just slow and steady................
and don't injure myself again, like I did last week making a ramp..... a pinchbar wacked my wrist and took a few layers of skin off.

Looking good speedy.
Hey, can you remind me (us) what ratio of molasses to use with h2o?
I just bought 2 litres of the rust busting nectar as a start.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Mowerfreak,
I put 4 ltrs in my bath which holds , maybe 50 or 60 ltrs... 10 to 1 is a good sparing ratio for pennypinchers.........
The richer the better.............
I just put another utility frame in whole without wheels...... as my next project is and old Victa utility with a 125 cc electronic ingition and LM carb......

anyway got my mates base together today......................

10 to 1? You would have to leave it in for six weeks!
I was thinking closer to 1/4 molasses. I think I read somewhere that using hot our warm water helps to mix it.
If I was going to make a 60 liter solution, I would have bought the large 25kg bucket for $36. No mucking around.

Got it together, fuel up . It started , but stopped , no spark.
I think the coil has moved , as it was all apart. It's a bit hard getting the inner adjustment. 20 th I think.

Could we see a left side shot to get a view of the chocolate brown cowl?

Sure , I meant to do that...............

I had to have a win so I put the 125 cc motor I rebuilt for Grandmas mayfair. She bought a new mower as the fuel tank fell off.....
Anyway it fitted well and mowed half the front yard.

I will tell you why my mate chose chocolate brown later....

That looks cool Speedy. I also like the 125 engine on the green machine. Will it get a dress cowl or just a stand alone starter assembly?
What is the gray paint used on the handles?

Wow! Check out the carby on the Toblerone special.
I used one of those on a VC sports long ago. Went like a sports car!!

Hi Speedy & others,
Those mowers are quite different aren't they. One with the G3 carby is mounted east west, the other North South.

Just refresh me on the difference between 125 and 160. Is it just a larger bore, or stroke or a combination of both? Are 160 and 125 crankshafts the same? I need a 160 cc fullcrank crankshaft at the moment. Got plenty of 125 crankshafts, although some are pretty old like Rotomo vintage,

All the best
Jeff

Hi Mowerfreak,
I haven't got the top cowl or starter, so I just use a rope, works well.
The grey paint is on the handles , because I had some and wanted to spare the rustolium green spray can., and it looks OK.

hello Jeff,
Yes they are different. the crankshafts are different length.... I was looking in the workshop manual available on this website... Trying to copy a page over for you but it didn't work.
I have three 160 bottom ends that I have to take apart to make one good motor for next project. I just took the decompressor off and it was busted, so mower wouldn't work. It has good bore piston and rings. A good start for my new 160.

Have a look in Brissie phonebook for a mower wrecker or visit tip shops. There must be plenty around Brissie.
good luck
