I am putting a mates good motor on a good base for him, and I get parts and have 3 motors and a good base to make one up for myself, as well as a a 4 stroke to sell..........
Just soaking a base in the molasses bath. And will do decokes on both motors.
keep busy

Hi Speedy, I'm finding they are a very sought after mower these days, I got one running for a bloke yesterday (you wouldn't believe it but the float needle was the problem) and a mate with his mowing business found one recently and he is bringing that over today because he wants to add that to his stable.
Well done and keep those Victas running

Hi Millsy let me know where you are, I'm want to have a look. I don't sell these to collectors, anything I build goes back to working hard as they did when they were first built. Some of these are being used be contractors to do a particular job, they are nice and light and can work on any angle. I prefer the plastic carb ones because they are so reliable and I have to hunt around after the barrels with the plastic carbs so I can swap them over if they have the earlier carbs.
Millsy I sell these for $80 reconditioned and in excellent working condition, I fully strip the chassis, paint it and put it back together with a lifetime warranty (my lifetime not the mowers, most of these will still be going long after I'm gone) Not sure what yours are like but this gives you a general idea.

Gotta keep doing things Speedy, keep the brain working, I struggle with my injuries and have to rest sometimes during the day but the challenge of getting the next motor running and another Victa saved drives me on.

What do you think of electrolysis?

I found one in hard rubbish this morning, just the base in good condition, missing the Powertorque motor, side chute and wheels but a very good starting point. They are a great little lightweight mower/slasher

Good one. Should keep it once you build it, but sell sell sell if somebody comes asking for a mower like it. laugh

You can't beat molasses, 4 weeks soaking and then a 15 min brush over with wire disk.........
Rustolium on top and some black Aldi rust paint underneath.
Still a lot of parts to go.

I'm also interested in electrolysis rust removal vs molasses.

It's looking like molasses is easier, simply because it doesn't need a power source to operate.

It's Rustolium. It's American. and I use it because when it's dry, if you spill petrol on it , it doesn't melt....
It's from bunnings $12.95 a can, some nice colours.....
http://www.rustoleum.com.au/

I brushed on the underside black rust paint.... it's that Aldi thin stuff.
cheers

I thought you undercoated it in the Aldi paint and used the green on top. Now I understand. Good to know petroleum won't affect it. That is a worry in choosing which paint.
Rustolium seem to be taking over our spray can businesses. I walked into an independent auto parts suppliers and looked at this brand of hammertone paint I had never seen and a member of staff mentioned that Rustolium had recently bought them out. They were a Melbourne based manufacturer. Forget the name. I hope this company isn't going around trying to take over smaller manufacturers of spray can paint, as it could lead to the shrinking of colour choices out there in this already limited market of ours.

The can says since 1921...... there are a lot of spray paints in cans at Bunning, with names like Dura at $22 a can..
I like the Killrust epoxy spray paint as well...

I prefer Killrust but I did try a can from Bunnings once and it was awful to paint with - more like water with food colouring! IIRC it was White Knight.

The motor had a broken ring.
The points look a bit of a mess, but the motor was going......
Cleaned it all up.
I have one wire bottom right on the wood. Not sure where it goes...

Speedy just remember if you fit one of these you don't have to pull the fanwheel off, just leave the points in there and forget about them, they are not needed with this module.

That's good NornK, but this is my mates engine and I think he will be happy with new rings, gaskets and hoses and an old muffler and decompresser I had. This engine had old big metal carb.
My engine will have LM carb and electronic ignition....

I found out where that wire goes, it was in first pic of the dirty engine.

Way to go Speedy, utility with electronic ignition and an LM carb, with general maintenance over the years it will outlast both of us.No reason why these won't be still running in another 50 years, that is if they can still get fuel in 50 years

Finished my frame. I'm posting just to show new people how easy it is to have a go. Main thing is you start with a going mower.......
I've ordered new rings for my mates engine as I'm doing that up first..........
Now getting his frame parts out of the molasses bath.
Just getting things together, a little at a time...... it then all adds up to two nice mowers.....................
but I have been wrong before........

Had a bit of rain in Bundy mon tuesday...........
Lucky I just mowed the lawn with my new 2nd hand Victa 4 stroke.............

cheers

My mates motor has new rings and a good spark now even just by hand, everything else cleaned ..............
Now ready to do his base....... he welded the side piece in. It's just slow and steady................
and don't injure myself again, like I did last week making a ramp..... a pinchbar wacked my wrist and took a few layers of skin off.

Looking good speedy.
Hey, can you remind me (us) what ratio of molasses to use with h2o?
I just bought 2 litres of the rust busting nectar as a start.

Hi Mowerfreak,
I put 4 ltrs in my bath which holds , maybe 50 or 60 ltrs... 10 to 1 is a good sparing ratio for pennypinchers.........
The richer the better.............
I just put another utility frame in whole without wheels...... as my next project is and old Victa utility with a 125 cc electronic ingition and LM carb......

anyway got my mates base together today......................

10 to 1? You would have to leave it in for six weeks!
I was thinking closer to 1/4 molasses. I think I read somewhere that using hot our warm water helps to mix it.
If I was going to make a 60 liter solution, I would have bought the large 25kg bucket for $36. No mucking around.

Got it together, fuel up . It started , but stopped , no spark.
I think the coil has moved , as it was all apart. It's a bit hard getting the inner adjustment. 20 th I think.

Could we see a left side shot to get a view of the chocolate brown cowl?
