I am putting a mates good motor on a good base for him, and I get parts and have 3 motors and a good base to make one up for myself, as well as a a 4 stroke to sell.......... Just soaking a base in the molasses bath. And will do decokes on both motors. keep busy speedy

Hi Speedy, I'm finding they are a very sought after mower these days, I got one running for a bloke yesterday (you wouldn't believe it but the float needle was the problem) and a mate with his mowing business found one recently and he is bringing that over today because he wants to add that to his stable. Hi Millsy let me know where you are, I'm want to have a look. I don't sell these to collectors, anything I build goes back to working hard as they did when they were first built. Some of these are being used be contractors to do a particular job, they are nice and light and can work on any angle. I prefer the plastic carb ones because they are so reliable and I have to hunt around after the barrels with the plastic carbs so I can swap them over if they have the earlier carbs. Millsy I sell these for $80 reconditioned and in excellent working condition, I fully strip the chassis, paint it and put it back together with a lifetime warranty (my lifetime not the mowers, most of these will still be going long after I'm gone) Not sure what yours are like but this gives you a general idea.

Got two good bases in the molasses bath... and extra bath for extras.... I should get an old bathtub..........................
And water blasted the working engine so I can take it apart... My mate will have to do a cut and paste on his base................ with a mig, but he can do it.

Gotta keep doing things Speedy, keep the brain working, I struggle with my injuries and have to rest sometimes during the day but the challenge of getting the next motor running and another Victa saved drives me on.
My base is ready after 4 weeks in the molases bath............ It looks good, but needs paint... asap. Just have to run over it with a wire brush on the grinder..... speedy

I found one in hard rubbish this morning, just the base in good condition, missing the Powertorque motor, side chute and wheels but a very good starting point. They are a great little lightweight mower/slasher
You can't beat molasses, 4 weeks soaking and then a 15 min brush over with wire disk......... Rustolium on top and some black Aldi rust paint underneath. Still a lot of parts to go. speedy

It's Rustolium. It's American. and I use it because when it's dry, if you spill petrol on it , it doesn't melt.... It's from bunnings $12.95 a can, some nice colours..... http://www.rustoleum.com.au/

I thought you undercoated it in the Aldi paint and used the green on top. Now I understand. Good to know petroleum won't affect it. That is a worry in choosing which paint. Rustolium seem to be taking over our spray can businesses. I walked into an independent auto parts suppliers and looked at this brand of hammertone paint I had never seen and a member of staff mentioned that Rustolium had recently bought them out. They were a Melbourne based manufacturer. Forget the name. I hope this company isn't going around trying to take over smaller manufacturers of spray can paint, as it could lead to the shrinking of colour choices out there in this already limited market of ours.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
The can says since 1921...... there are a lot of spray paints in cans at Bunning, with names like Dura at $22 a can.. I like the Killrust epoxy spray paint as well... speedy

I prefer Killrust but I did try a can from Bunnings once and it was awful to paint with - more like water with food colouring! IIRC it was White Knight.
The motor had a broken ring. The points look a bit of a mess, but the motor was going...... Cleaned it all up. I have one wire bottom right on the wood. Not sure where it goes...
