have you tried giving it a soak ? toss it a bowl of diesel a few days , unless the spring is broken most times just full of dried oil n crud and that loosens it all up , not too hard to dismantle really , just dont touch the spring ........ might be just the dog is seized for the trip bit

What he said^^^^
They are a real easy rebuild.
Be Good for you to learn on this one.
My last one you could barely turn and it was just gunked up. Serviced it and it worked like new. Only had to replace the handle stay clip.
You cannnn doooo itttttt!

They can be pulled apart.. There's a nut on the bottom, you will need a certain type & size socket to get it off. I'll post a pick of the socket tonight. I had to replace the spring in mine.

An 11/16" tube spanner will do the job, too.
Might as well get this on the record as well. Parts 11-14 in CyberJack's parts diagram above were superseded by a non-repairable zinc alloy cased assembly, in later models.
When the return spring that presses the dog against the spring housing teeth fails, the 'Release Assembly' must be replaced as a unit.
It's just a matter of grinding off the top of the square section that is above the lever body, punching the old unit out, fitting the new unit along with any spacer/s, and peening the top of the square shank over.
Now for the hard bit - parts availability. The last Oz supplier, GA Spares, has now discontinued this part, along with their other impulse starter items. However, there is still some old stock about, and there is a US equivalent.
Part Numbers to look for are: Victa ST12213; Kirby GED253; and in the US, Tecumseh 31419.
Cheers, Gadge

seanw,
I assume you have this sorted by now, but just in case you don't here is one (located in nsw) on fleabay that may do the trick, or at least you might be able to butcher it for the parts.
