Hi there, I have an old rover rancher ride on mower (2007) model, does anyone out there have any ideas on how to tension the belt on the cutter deck? any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Can you give us more info, there are heaps of variants of Ranchers. Mine doesn't have any way of tensioning the cutter belt as it comes under tension when the mower deck slides back on engagement, just replace it when it is worn to the point it no longer grips.

Hi aussietrev, it is a model 28269 built in about 2007, my problem is not a loose belt but in fact the opposite, it will not dis engage the belt I need to loosen something some where so that when I dis engage the deck it will stop spinning and not be to tight that the motor is still not running free, there must be some nut some where to back off and let the motor run free when the deck is dis engaged.

Here's a link to the owners manual.

On mine, a 28151, the forward deck travel adjustment is on the engage lever extension on the carburetor side of the mower that also engages the interlock switch.

Thanks aussietrev, I will have a look and try to identify it and adjust accordingly.

You might also want to check the deck brake is working right. It takes a surprisingly small amount of contact for the belt to still spin the deck even with a very loose belt. On my model the brake is a bar running across the chassis at the "firewall" with a brake pad mounted in the middle. When the deck comes up it presses on the top of the drive pulley. It is adjustable by loosening the mounts on either side. The pad may be worn out in which case you can purchase a replacement pad from outdoorking very cheaply.
