Hi All, Just wondering how worth it this mower for sale at work is.

Its $40, working well, but the starter cord snapped (easy fix)

I would be buying it to fix and sell, however, i have alot of mowers to sell at the moment, so I would only really consider it if its really worth a bit, say $140 or more.

I know anything is worth whatever somone will pay, but what are the odds of breaking $140 with this thing?

Cheers
Ty

Ty I reckon in the local market here it would have to be lookin good with a catcher to get close to $140. Maybe in the Sydney market you could get a better price but without a catcher they seem harder to move (unless they are the larger slasher types for specific purposes etc.).

Collecting Victa 2 stroke mowers from the 70s and 80s.

That's sort of where my head was at, especially due to the ones i'm getting in for free, just seems like $40 i don't really need to spend.

Just know i have been wrong about a few before (like the rover 2-stroke XL)

Think i will just let it go, to many mowers in the shed as it is!

Cheers

Personally I would use the $40 to buy a vb 30 pack to drink while fixing others!, that being said if you could get that one for $20 I would take the mower instead.

I might throw an offer of 20 at him, but to be honest I'm liking your first suggestion (New for me, but i don't mind VB either) so it may be the bottle shop instead!

To me 'working fine but the starter corsd snapped' means, its the biggest mongrel of a thing to start, pull and pull and pull and eventually it goes.

Or it was all good, then it wouldnt start but im pig headed and i just kept pulling and the starter cord broke.

So to me it means assume the worst.

If it had a catcher id pay $40 for it.
$20 without the catcher. Just the base is worth $20 it if its good, wheel arent to wobbly handles OK. You can easy spend an hour sorting a base, swapping an axle, changing back door sorting handles and putting a cross bar in the back under the axle.
Those rovers with the plastic wheels without the bearings are bad for wearing the axles.

Air filters for that type tecumseh are not cheap.
A pull cord, knob, pair of handle bolts, oil, plug 2 sets of blades, your looking at $50 just in parts to get it sorted.

I had a guy bring an old PT steel base victa in the other day. Wanted a pull cord, told him $20. He was all it runs great blah blah. Spring had jumped off so i had to pull the starter apart.
It looked fairly reasonable. The base and front axle where chewed out. Easy enough to fix. Blades were all bent up, he hit a rock he said. He ended up trading it in on an old high arch with a series 80 on it.
I put a new pull cord in it. Started it and it ran. Washed it and it wouldnt go. Messed about for ages. Coil lead had been fixed with a bit of wire. Ended up i had to pull the motor off. The outer on the lead was split right at the edge of the head and where the lead went into the coil had like glue around it and it looked like water had got in there. Sparked outside the mower OK. Swapped the coil and off it went.
Flipped it over pulled the axle out, welded a bit in the frame, welded up the axle and ground it. Put it all back together and its all good.

Buyer beware. lol.

Long story short, theres $20 worth of parts in it.
Not quite $20 worth of scrap, maybe $12 or so, so you only need to find $8 to break even.

If its still up there in a few weeks, I'll offer him $15, maybe $20, really no skin off my nose if he says no, Iv'e pulled 8 good freebies of that bulletin board last week, and i got a call today offering 2 more, so hey, there's better things to put my money into.

And hell, who knows, maybe he will call it in as a donation if he sees my add and has not sold it!

I have a couple of rovers from the same era with tecumseh engines on tbem. I think they decided to run a few at the same time as as the same models with briggs in the late 90's, no idea why tbough, the briggs always seem to do better.

Seriously keep your money I certainly wouldn't bother with it.Plenty on other mowers out there to make money off.Put your money into a coffee machine so when I do come and visit I can have a cappuccino.

Here for a good time, not a long time.
