Ok, So my twin starts easy, but then if i go past idle it dies.

If i wait a few seconds to warm her, then accelerate carefully, it get there fine.

at this point it will idle well, run well, and move well through the throttle.

When i push it forward, it loses revs, and starts to die, but not always.

Occasionally it will cut through thick grass, but usually, it will weaken and eventually die, if it is moving, even on a flat, cement verandah, with no grass.

i thought water in the carby, but i have now fully re-done the carby, and still the same issue, it does it with the kill wires isolated too, and it only takes a gentle push, on a flat, load free (or in grass too) surface, and after an inch or so, the revs drop out.

Help???

Sorry man as I said the other day that problem has me stumped too.The only thing I can come up with,(Like if was on a car)would be a lose wire.I have noticed on my Twin I have a wire that goes up under the flywheel.I'm assuming that goes to some sort of ignition chip. Perhaps that has come a little lose.It would take much to come lose,and cause a Similar problem. Have you checked all the wiring.I'm just throwing ideas out there.

I though that may be the issue, but after isolating the wires, it still has the same issue, and its to sensitive to be a lose coil, it's such a light effort that causes it!

They seemed alright, but i have not given them a thorough inspection (just a good looking at!)

I have never heard of them causing an issue like this, but then again, i have heard of them causing all sorts of strange issues!!

They are a weird machine, I had a lot of trouble getting all mines teething problems sorted out.

I pulled both my twin and compact out of the shed for the first time in 2 years today and went mowing! here is a pic for you

EDIT: I do remember having big troubles from the inlet manifold seal as well... had to find a suitable O ring as I got dumb looks from the local mower place.

I'll have a look at the seals and inlet, hopefully i will get some ideas there.

That's a great pair Joe, seem to be in really goo nick.

I'm hoping to one day get my hands on all 4 (Twin/Supreme/Lightweight/Compact)

If I'm lucky, they will look that good!

(My twin is in similar nick, but the catcher could be better... oh, and it could work too!)

is it electronic ignition? if so id drill the module off and pop rivet another one on. they can give you the sh*ts trying to work out what is wrong
if it has points double check everything or swap everything for a known good set and try again.

thats an interesting machine is that self propelled, or is that cable for some kind of brake?
ive never seen a rotary mower with a roller on the back similar to cylinder mowers
and last what is it?

Points can be filed smooth, but check the condenser first. On the old cars we often had problems with them breaking down under load. My father allways kept the old set of points & condenser in the boot for this reason.

That's the thing that has me, this is irrespective of load, as soon as i move the mower forward, even slowly, on a cement path, it will still do it!

I will have to get that video together this weekend!

confused mmmm I see you have rebuilt the carby....When it dies whip the plug and see if it is wet or dry. My thinking is along the lines of a dodgy float level or sticky needle & seat...as soon as you move it it dies; suggesting fuel level?

Another good way to check the spark is with one of those cheap in line timing lights....(or a expensive inductive one if you have a 12V battery handy) these faults do tend to send a sane man a little crazy....

That they do, though i might try yet another float bowl set, just to feel better, and have another look through the carby.

Plus a look at the plugs as you said.

I doubt it would die out if it was the float. It would lean out but it would still run.

What i get from what you have said is that its most likely a spark problem. Something loose.
I could be something to do with the stop wires.

Have you tried it with the cross pin removed from the carb??
