Speedy, wow what are the chances of that! Haha I normally would search to see if anyone else had one but figured it was buckley's - very impressive and yes I certainly hope that it won't require that level of work. The only thing I've also found with this one is it had a crapload of limescale deposits inside the pump itself - probably won't make much difference in rreal terms but I tried to remove as much as I could by soaking in a descale solution overnight and hosing out. Got rid of a bit but still plenty left.
My experience with this pump has been eerily similar to yours......as soon as I got it home and went out to test I found the petrol gushing out as fast as I poured it in , which like you I figure was the carb rings. I used SCA starter as well and did get it to run for a very, very short period.
Seeing as I hope to never use it at all (I'm actually a member of our local RFS and our property is pretty safe but this was a 'just in case' buy) I don't think I'll go to quite the trouble of cleaning the sump, cylinder head etc - but just having it run would be nice. Terrific thread and thank you for sharing.
That particular carburetor is no longer available thru Briggs. The repair kit is and it is PN 498260.
Just spraying the carburetor is not going to clean it. Here I use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean these with soap and water.
Ah much thanks AVB, I'll cease looking for the carb then - but I will try and find the repair kit. Much thanks for this. Alas I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner but will try and make do.
Nath, wow nice to see Yamaha are still making VERY healthy profit margins! Appreciate the suggestion but I'll have to use something else but good to know for future reference.
