Have you checked the crankshaft seals? Much easier now than after you put it back on the base.
It is just a matter of trickling a little fuel on each seal with it on top and the crankshaft vertical. If the fuel vanishes, you need a new seal.
If the crankshaft bearings have no slack at all, the seals are probably OK, but this is a good time to check them.
