I have discovered a powertorque engine on a mower had the plug guard ramp missing and I hand found a spare on a wreck. How do I remove it and then attach it? I have tried to remove it already and I have only managed to pivot it by the edge. I don't want to force anything and break it.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
One less fork in the kitchen drawer. I made one a couple of days back. You need it as it's easy to break off a plugh mowing along close to walls and fences. cheers speedy

I have a couple of powertorques that look like they have never had the guard fitted, there is no hole in the head for a rivet to go in. Anyone else find this?
Hi Jds303 I am new to these powertorque engines but after I read this I checked the photos of mine and I went outside and had a look at the mower and it doesn't have a hole for the rivet either. But there is a slot or something near there where it looks like some sort of thing may have been installed when they were new. Maybe in the later years after many were getting returned to repair shops because of broken spark plugs etc, Victa then updated the newly made engines with a riveted spark plug guard?
I don't know but now reading this I am thinking I might also have to use some sort of spark plug guard when I get this mower running again.
It looks like you can't buy these guards new anymore from reading the posts around here. I might have to use Speedy's idea and see if I have any old unused forks in the kitchen aswell...lol
Cheers!

Zip a dee doo dah, zip a dee ay, another trash picked Victa, hip hip Hooray!
Hi Converse, I'm trying to wriggle out a rivet-less one off a wreck which is loose but refuses to come out. I have now discovered a second PT of mine that's missing the guard and I so happen to have another dead PT to scavenge one off.

That's great thanks for that Bruce, I will have to grab one of these and few other parts from you when I start working on this mower mate.
Do you still sell new nuts and washers for fitting the blade carrier on a Victa Powertorque engine? I have searched your site and I can't seem to find them listed anywhere?
Cheers!

Well i've found out that you can no longer purchase the older style powertorque spark plug guards, you can only purchase the newer style powertorque spark plug guards.
The early and late guards are different.
So it looks like if you have a later powertorque engine you can still purchase a new spark plug guard. But if you have an earlier powertorque engine unless you can find someone that may have some new old stock ones, you have to use a second hand one or it's time to use Speedy's idea and go look in the kitchen for a fork or something to modify and use as an early powertorque spark plug guard..lol
Cheers!

Does anyone have an old powertorque from the 80s that actually had one of these fitted? Reason I ask is every picture I have seen of these very early powertorques don't have one of these installed, and the mustang I got (84 model) doesn't have one either, even though there is clearly a cutout on the head for it, you can tell nothing has been in it, as there is not the slightest bit of wear, damage or discolouration in that area. You can see where the plug boot has been scraped though haha.
It is a pity they didn't use what they already had with the full crank and long ends on the bolts. Simple and effective, even when reversing out of a shrub.
