I'm having a problem with the later current rounded style of Victa catchers that are almost always missing the inside plastic screen. This was always a problem with the Rover catchers. I bought a sheet of perforated metal and started making screens for the Rovers, mainly because Rover catchers were a bit hard to come by. I kept putting the Victa catchers to one side as I always had a reasonable supply of them. I have made up a pattern for the Victa ones but now I am running out of the perforated metal, I should have bought more sheets when I had the chance. Anybody have any thoughts on what else I can use?
Hi Norm, i too repair the rover catchers but don't bother with the victa ones. i've never bought mesh/perforated metal; What i use is the aluminium mesh from the large satellite dishes. Come hard garbage season I reckon i see 2 or 3 dishes on the curb and just go out and cut the panels out using a decent knife.
Thanks BT, I haven't bothered repairing the Victa ones before but the pile I'm ending up with is getting a bit of a problem. Once you split the catcher it is quite straight forward to make up a screen. As for satellite dishes, can't say I have seen any of those on hard rubbish around here, but I will keep an eye out. Also BT was it you who pointed out to me that a catcher I have on Gumtree is an early Morrison 3 in i? Not sure if anybody would ever want one but it saves me cutting it up and putting in the rubbish bin. I try and get rid of a couple of catchers each week in the bin
Hi Norm and all, I've had a few catchers with wire mesh cable tied to the outlets of the catcher and a few had plastic gutter guard instead of wire mesh.
The gutter guard could be cable tied together so it's the correct size for Rover catchers etc.
Hi Norm, i use a 5 mm diameter rivet and a washer to secure the mesh. It's aluminium mesh, so it's soft enough to cut with a knife or scissors but far stronger than the plastic rubbish that rover used in them originally.
Ohh, and yes that was me that messaged you on Gumtree.
Thanks BT, I had one of those Morrison mowers and it had the wood chipping chute on it. Never tried to see if that worked or how effective it was. At least with all the old Victa catchers I am chopping up I get the old steel screens so I can make them fit the later catchers, problem is I have more of the newer catchers without screens than old catchers with screens. Hi Max, I don't think I have seen the micro screen, I will have a look and see what I think. This stuff might work, pity it is only 200mm wide www.ebay.com.au/itm/10M-20M-30M-Gut...-Mesh-Home-Silver-100x20cm/263818365707?
That looks good Max, even if I had to put one layer above the other to reduce the hole sizes. I will check it out. I need 320 for the Victa ones, but I might be able to sneak it in with 300mm
