Hi all,

I've just picked up a brand new MSP562 and I'm so excited!! So naturally, the first thing I do is take it apart :-D

In the carburettor, I found it came with what appears to be the 4 ring jet, and the natural spring. The poppet valve position was a bit off though, and the box has a build date on it of 2015. So my question is, what poppet valve setting should it be running? Should it still be using the 4 ring jet? I haven't fired it up yet, I want to swap the blade disc out for the 4 blade disc first and make sure I've got it setup the way it should be.

Also, curious, in all of the advertising material available, these systems come with a muffler that's painted black, but mine is uncoated.. was this something they started doing only in the last 4 years??

Cheers,

pau13z

Congratulation Paul, looked after it will last a lifetime. I wonder how many of these are left out there seeing it is a 4 year old NOS one. I think it was 2017 when Briggs ceased production of the 2 stroke. There always seems to be a new PT mower for sale so there is still a few out there

It's alloy as well. With all the settings checked, you're laughing mate! So jealous!
I wouldn't want to use it, but you may as well enjoy it and put it to work right away.

Thanks for showing us.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Thanks everyone.

So I just called Victa to try to get some answers. Apparently, technical bulletins are released for each model/engine to provide information on the default carburettor configuration for the system in question. The documentation is available through service centres (Victa Gold Dealers). That said, the configuration is entirely open to change based on the users preference of governing speed. One thing to note is that they wanted to ensure that on initial startup the engine didn't rev right up, so components in the carburettor are setup to not rev so high from the factory. Also, the poppet valve setting for this model should be AC.

Further to this, I was informed that the universal carburettor kit is a current part and stands as a retrofit for all previous powertorque engines. Another retrofit is the muffler. The agent told me that there is a single part number available if you want a replacement muffler for all powertorque models.

Yes, the chassis is all alloy and it looks magnificent. I will say though, I actually had to retap some of the holes because the paint/powder coating had run into them.

Next, and before using it, I want to change the blade disc, and I'm considering changing the bolts to stainless bolts. I have a self drive version of this mower and haven't used it because while changing some components, rusted bolts broke off and I have spent the entire time with the mower trying to remove those bolts without needing to drill out and retap the holes lol. If I can get stainless bolts and avoid that, I'm going to haha.

Cheers everyone,

Hey Pau13z that's a nice machine you have there mate!

I wonder if these last of the 2 strokes will become collectable in years to come, because I don't ever think they will ever re-release a Victa 2 stroke or any 2 stroke mower again because of the new tough emission laws.

I wouldn't mind getting one or 2 of the last brand new Victa 2 stroke mowers to use one and one to put away. But before you know it you become a hoarder and you run out of space! LOL! If I had the space and money i'd be getting a few that's for sure! ha!

As for the muffler mate I think going by what i've read here I think the early powertorque engines just had a plain black painted muffler. Then on these later 2 strokes they got this new shiny muffler with the "Victa" imprint on it. I found one in a scrap yard just last week and the muffler on it looks like the one on your brand new mower, although I don't know if it's the original muffler it may have been replaced because it looks in really good condition for an old used mower. Also if you look up Victa spares and you want a new genuine Victa powertorque muffler they all look like the one on your mower.

But when I'm going to rebuild my older powertorque i'm just going to get an aftermarket plain black one as this is what the older powertorque's had.

Cheers and look after that mower mate! It's great!

Hey Mowerfreak & Converse,

You know what... you're absolutely right. I don't want to use it, I want to collect it and have it good forever, and I'd love to have one new in the box and never open it, but I'm not a museum haha and as you said, space, money, and mentality come into play. Nobody is going to come to my house to look at the immaculate mower LOL. That said, if I didn't have to worry about money or real estate, I'd totally get a spare or 2 in a box. But if I had all of that money and real estate, would I just hire someone to do my lawns?... No... No I wouldn't.. haha.

That said, I wanted to get it before you can't anymore, so I can have one and keep it good and use it as I want over the years. I'm actually looking at heading interstate on the weekend to pick up an MSV562 that looks like it's in damn near perfect condition, so I'll have a nice little convoy going haha. At that point, I'll be able to sell my old MSV562 though after I fix it up, let someone else have a go lol.

They won't re-release the 2-stroke in my opinion. Briggs & Stratton figured.. why spend a fortune to get it compliant when we can sell our 4 strokes? That way, people will fail to do their oil changes/top-ups, run their engines dry, then buy a new mower and make us more money...haha.

I feel that in time, the PowerTorque engines will become more sought after, but for people like us, who appreciate them. Or until everyone else realises how much easier and less maintenance they are lol.

Converse, I'm jealous. You got to hang out at a scrap yard and found a 2-stroke. I hear all the time about people getting them in council collections. The only thing I've ever found was a steel chassis 4 stroke, which is still in my garage because... well it doesn't really interest me lol. Not yet anyway.

Pretty much the only reason I was hoping for a painted muffler is that I don't like the look of a rusty muffler at the front lol. I might just paint it smile

Cheers guys,

Talking about the scrap yard, a few weeks ago I wanted to get rid of a Braggs Jetmaster 4 stroke, non runner, no catcher, pretty tired looking thing. I put it on Gumtree for free, couple of people wanted it(at least that is what they said), I put it on the nature strip and nobody took it. I ended up taking it to the tip and the other day my son came home with a pic of it sitting in the tip shop with a $30 price tag on it. I'm still way in front as I have grabbed quite a number of mowers from their scrap metal area before LOL

G'day everyone,

Yes NormK I went to a council around here and they told me they no longer have a tip shop, anyway there is a spot on the side of the road where you can look through a fence at their council hard rubbish piles. I didn't see any mowers at all in the junk..lol Just alot of whitegoods, some bikes and building materials.

So I thought i'll start searching some scrap metal yards because years ago I used to walk past them and i'd sometimes see the odd lawnmower dumped in there.

When I picked up this Victa last week, there was a few 4 strokes there but they were really trashed and buggered. Handles were gone, wheels were gone and even the engines looked trashed and rusted out big time.

I had a look on the mountain of junk in this yard and I did see quite a few lawnmower bases chucked in there. There was a couple of what looked to be those cheap sort of Aldi mowers in the pile. There was one green Victa base I think it was a powertorque base but it had rusted out big time. Wheels were garbage and even the adjusting holes in the deck were worn out and one had a split in it. But don't worry I still tried to drag it out of the pile as I thought maybe the metal rear lid can still be used..lol

But the closer I got to it I just saw more rust even on the lid. The hinges looked to have been drilled out, rusted and screws were fitted there. In the end I just gave up and grabbed the one I found.

So you can tell I am trying to salvage as much good old Victa stuff as I can now!

Cheers!
