Thanks for the offer Trev, but all good now, fuel sitting in the bowl for a day or so and the seat and the bowl "O" ring have swolen up and now seal properly and now the motor runs how it should without hunting on the governor. Win win, thanks again

Hi Trev, I have this motor running fairly well now and it starts easily but somebody as usual destroyed the governor spring in a vain attempt to do whatever these people think they are going to achieve when they have no idea as to what they are doing. It is the top spring in the pic that I would like to know where it is supposed to go, the left end is in its correct place by the look of it it is the right hand side that has been all botched up

Hi Norm, im pretty sure it goes in the same hole as the governor linkage in the governor arm.

Yep, they just parallel each other to stop governor flutter.

Thanks Bigted and Trev, the spring had been all bent and they had it sort of in the hole half way down the governor arm. Great motor, must have been a bit of a flutter by Rover to enter the 2 stroke market, I guess the idea didn't last too long, although there is the odd one on Gumtree and ebay. My opinion on the 2 strokes is that they are a grass cutter/lawn mower, the 4 strokes are for lawn mowers

The problem with that carby set up is the mounting bolts being so long that you can't pull the carby clear and then rotate it to remove the linkages and spring so people tend to bend the bits as they try to remove it rather than doing it by intent to achieve some mysterious end. The Chonda carbies can have a similar problem depending on what air cleaner style was fitted.

Ok so I fell for it once again. I got a Suzuki 2 stroke motor with a pile of powertorque motors I picked up earlier in the week. I went to bolt it onto a Greenfield base I had sitting here that had a Briggs Quantam motor on it. I couldn't believe the bolt holes are not Briggs pattern, which means that the Rover Suzuki 2 stroke mowers must have had a different bolt pattern. This I find hard to believe

Looks like some drilling is required. Is the shaft OK? Be interesting to see how it goes and how much power it has. I have heard that the Suzuki carbys can be a little difficult at times. Not sure if you can get cheap Chinese replacement carbys.

Hi Jeff the bolt holes are way off for some reason, I can't believe that Rover had a special base cast just for the Suzuki, but they must have. I have only had one here previously and although it ran very smoothly I had issues with the carby with it hunting , eventually I just got rid of it because I wasn't prepared to waste any more time on it. All I wanted to do with this one was see if it ran, if it didn't I would just throw it in the dead motor pile

If you have to redrill its better that the holes are way off. Its not easy to drill half a hole. Usually end up resorting to a hand file and that can be hard work.

Jeff, maybe that is why those Iron Horse motors are so cheap, they only fit the Rover 2 stroke base

Jeff I contacted the seller of the Iron Horse motors and he says they are Briggs pattern, so I'm not sure what is going on with the genuine Suzuki motor I have here

That does seem strange. You would expect them to be an exact clone but maybe they found that too restrictive so they altered to Briggs pattern. Still odd though. I wonder if Rover were re drilling the same base in a couple of ways.

They are a briggs pattern to the best of my knowledge although they do have a removable "sump plate". Is it possible that this has been refitted and rotated 90 degrees?

Hi BT, I did notice that it looks as if the base could be rotated but I assumed this would upset the crank seal so I didn't go any further with it. I can't imagine what it could have been used on with the plate turned. I did think of trying an adapter ring on it to see if the holes lined somewhere. I will check today, just for kicks and giggles

BT, you were right, the plate has been turned 90 degrees for some reason. I'm thinking it might be easier for me to drill new holes, as I only want to see if the motor will run ok. Only issue is it puts one of the bolts under the carby but that must still be the case if I rotated the plate.

Norm, the bolt under the carby is not used, it's there because it is? They mount up using the 2 along the back, left and right and the one under the muffler. These are the same bolt pattern as a briggs.

Thanks BT, I worked it out always difficult when you are looking at things upside down, I have it bolted on a base just need to put a cable on it and see if it runs. Thanks again

Ok so this motor is a non starter but they look a reasonably impressive motor, I'm wondering if I should get a few of those Iron Horse motors to put on some of the bases I have hear that had dead Briggs on them. Just not sure if people would buy them. People buy the Victa 2 strokes because everybody knows about them, they have been around so long.
