Can anybody jog my memory, when doing this conversion, all that is needed is to remove the clutch, cut the end off the crank, fit the cup and use a nut from a cup starter one?

Correct. Just remember to properly torque the nut afterwards.

I just did my first cut off of the PTO end to shorten it today and retro fit an OHV engine on a log splitter that had a worn out '97 L-head fitted.

With the Promo engine it was just as cheap to install a new engine as it was to rebuild the old one and a heck of a lot less work.

Matter of fact here is a copy of the instructions.

It probably been that long or longer since the time my starter clutch tool has been out of the tool box here. I just don't see these much anymore as most were on walk behind mower vertical engines here. These have become cheap to replace a very few owners even bother to repair them anymore. Sad in a way as they are much better built than today's Honda clones coming out of China.

I am hoping the Briggs 130G32 is built a little better as it is supposedly ground up design by Briggs but is still based on the Honda horizontal slant engine. Any ways it still looks like a Honda to me.

Hi AVB the bloke just wanted me to fit a starter to it, good quick easy job but it was on one of those horrible MTD's big bulky walk behind mowers with a little dinky Briggs motor sitting on them
