I only have to ad pictures as I've started the tear-down. I will make a Build thread once its down to its chassis and its assembly time.

What looks like heavy rust on the chassis is actually just peeling paint, it has a couple of seized components and the deck supports and under the seat spring are the only area with rust thankfully.

Well, well,
Looks like another very early bird!
I'd be interested in some more photos, even if the machine is in a state of dismemberment.
One thing I am curious about is the decal. It has a red background? Mine and gml's are green. Does it have the gear motif style decal on the front?

Take heart in the fact that your machine is still in better condition than my own example when I got it! smile

We can certainly help out with a seat and the piece of missing tinwear. The seat will be ex a tractor model. They are very similar with just a slight difference in moulding underneath which no one will notice anyway. The tinwear is unique to these very early machines but fortunately is very simple to fold up. I need to fold one for mine as the original is hopelessly rusted. It'll be just as easy to make two as to make one. Let me know when you get close to needing it.

Throttle, I know gml was looking for one a few weeks back and found one somewhere. They appear to be literally a Victa one with the cable cut to length.

Can't help with the tank. I'll keep an eye out for you.

On the subject of paint, I went to the trouble of getting an accurate match in 2k but also picked up a can of killrust red rattler for little bits and pieces and it is an incredibly good match.

Cheers,

The front and rear decals are just plain greenfield ones similar to the HD10, the mower is original enough that they could be original but Im not sure. I'll try get some tear down picture tonight.

The decals have thrown me completely. As you say they are similar to your much later machine and not what I would have expected.

Also, the grille slots are different to mine and gml's - more widely spaced like Lewis' grey machine. .......also the engine clutch lever?............

Very interesting. I'm keen to see some more photos

Cheers,

Here are some pictures of how it sits now, including the exhaust valve Im unsticking, my careful labeled-bag inventory of removed parts and the broken drive pulley that came on it.

the clutch leaver is not spring loaded, it is a long handle that is manually placed into position, the rod pivots around a stud to apply pressure to the clutch which interestingly is cork and has almost the same dimensions as the cork for S&B 45 drive clutches.

I just realized that the close up of the LH Bonnet decal shows that the decal is placed on the wrong side with the angled side facing the driver instead of to the front of the bonnet? wrong decals then?

Do these help? I haven't put the leaver on the stub as its a bit tight with surface rust at the moment.

G'day Folks,

This IS interesting. Gml, you'll notice the chassis structure under the seat and around the steering column is different to ours and the engine clutch nothing we've seen before. Different to ours and different to Lewis'

I think we have to assume it's a variant that is older than mine and gml's and younger than Lewis'.

Very interesting machine!

It is a very strong guess that these are aftermarket decals. Perhaps there is evidence of old decals underneath?

The fun part about this Greenfield history thing is that just when we think the pieces are in place the goalposts move!!

Yes, Lewis' input on this would be most valuable!

Cheers,

i cant see any evidence of old decals, I think that its the original paint due to the consistency all over and no over-spray but i have been known to be wrong before

G'day greenfielder and prd.
Mod prd has just pointed out to me that this topic would be better suited to
the Greenfield forum - as it contains much valuable information on this
quite different machine.

I will now move this topic.

Cheers
Jack
