Hi again all, I have just found and cleaned the Manufacture Plate with Model No. 52155.
Now I just need to find the Engine model No., Type, and Code.right info is in post 3
Like to know of any dealers in Wagga Wagga , Griffith , Leeton, Narrandera, West Wyalong, that use this site as I live in Ardlethan and have about the same running distance to all places from where I live.

All good people I have done a bit more searching and have found the engine manual and parts list
Funny thing is they only have Engine model No. 253707 Type. 0118-01, no listing for Engine model No. 253707 Type. 0117-01 but when I look over the paperwork it is the same, I think the carbie is just different shapes between 0118-01 and 0117-01.
Hi Sprinter, all depends on what you want this mower for, if you want to use it as it was intended for or wanting to do a genuine resto? If you want to use it I would be inclined to forget about the motor, spend your time and effort on bringing the rest of the machine up to good working condition and then just put a brand new Chonda on it and that will solve a lot of the problems rebuilding an old Briggs motor. In fact on a mower of that size you can get away with a much smaller motor that an 11hp. I fitted a 6hp on a Greenfield Stallion and it works fine and it is a similar machine to yours. Just my opinion
Briggs is not perfect. I have had wrong part numbers and and missing model-types over the years on their Power Portal.
Just yesterday I was looking for direct replacement engine for 128702-0672 they was listing a 126L02-1018 as the replacement. It was no where to be found available. Then one my vendors said the 126M02-1018 was the replacement but the Power Portal said was NLA. With this I wrote my distributor, which contacted Briggs which they said use the 126M02-1018 and my distributor has it listed as a current model. Sure hope they got it straight as I am ordering the engine this morning for my customer. Supposedly all I got to do is change the governor spring.

Hi Thanks for your input I would like to put a new engine in but I could only find Chonda for goKarts . But I think I might play with what I got first and see it goes it runs but leaks oil and needs a carbie rebuild with a kit i can buy all gaskets kits 3 of = up to 80 to 100 bucks.

Yeah I see on the portal they have double of items, some out of stock, then down the list you see that number again and it has a (!) mark highlight over that, and it tells me the new part number for that old part number, strange setup I have to admit. Hope they send you the right engine.
I wouldn't be wasting 80 to 100 bucks patching up an old Briggs when you can get a new Chonda for not a lot more. If you can only find Chondas for go karts you are looking for the wrong motor, look under vertical shaft motors. Make sure it is a 1 inch shaft because a few motors come up to suit lawn mowers with a 7/8th shaft. Just be aware if you get one of the smaller Chondas for rideons they don't have the same bolt pattern as the Briggs unless they state that it has and this can be a bit of a chore setting them up..

Hi I was able to find a engine range from 6.5HP to 17 HP price from $179 to $555 with 2 year warranty, that fit B&S also Honda. There not Chonda but will keep looking . You are right though at them prices its crazy to rebuild a old engine.
Thanks for the shaft size info on the motors I did not think of that will keep it in mind when looking at ordering one. I will run the one i got into the ground now and replace the motor when needed as after cleaning it I can not see where the oil come from other then bad maintenance or over filling spills. Had a broken governor spring and needs a return spring for the throttle.
As NormK said old verticals usually cost as a new engine to rebuild especially if you are including your labor. Plus you would still have old parts that can still suddenly fail.
For the Model Number 253707-0118-01
The Replacement Engine per Briggs Power Portal is: 217907-3025

Hi Thanks for that info, that helps a lot because a B&S brand would be out of my price range. I looked back at the other cheaper brand I found it has specs below:
Bolt Pattern: Engine has a Briggs & Stratton bolt pattern. You can view a schematic of the bolt pattern in our thumbnail pictures. If you have a Briggs engine then the bolt pattern will be a perfect match. The mounting hole bolt thread is M10 x 1.5 (bolts not included). Image below:
Thanks again for that info I would like a genuine B&S but the amount of use it will get would not justify its self to the cost, as by the time it might die or need a rebuild on me it would most likely need replacing because of its age like this one I have. Since it is a throw away society, and as you pointed out after rebuilds the other parts are still half worn out and its a never ending battle keeping them running,
I will keep the engine for if I do a full restore I have the original then, but its missing some body cosmetics stickers, badge broken, missing front panel that says Rover XC also it needs a good sand blast really now I have it pulled down, a lot of paint is coming off underneath the body. So I have decided I will just us it as a normal ride-on mower. I will anti rust most of it and repaint the body to make the Rover look nicer as i have done the straightening of all the stuff steps and lifter holders the have been bent over the years of hard use.
Sprinter a 13 hp motor is a bit overkill for a little Rover and these motors don't come with a fuel tank so that can also be an issue , keep that in mind

Hi Thanks for your reply, I just feel a 6.5HP will not do the job I need as I will be cutting heavy grass as i have bush land to clear also its hilly if I was just doing normal grass on level land I would use a 6.5HP but the 13HP is the smallest they have other then the 6.5HP.
You are right that the engine dose not come with a fuel tank I could use my old tank but it needs a new cap and it has to be a odd fitting to find.
Looks like you could use that tank because unlike the forward engine mowers the tank causes problems with the bonnet. If you get stuck I probably have a cap to suit it here

Hi Thanks I will have to take a photo of the lid. I also just got given a 8hp B&S might be able to use its fuel tank but it has no cap at all and it needs a clean out its a easy cap to find.though.
Hello swampyro You have asked a most intriguing question... about the difference between the 5244 and the 52144 Rover mowers.
I do not have a copy of a 5244 parts list to answer this.
But, I know Rover typically added a '1' for significant changes to the specification. Most likely, chassis or transmission. The last two numbers were Rover's identifiers of engine fitment.
Maybe a member might offer an answer. Many thanks for asking the question.
