this is my latest buy a victa lawnkeeper with a 450 series b& s motor on it ,
runs not to bad ,bit sluggish, so after giving iit a run round the yard yesterday ,though seems to use a hell of a lot of fuel for a 2 stroke ,my other old victa that I sold ,thats the one I powder coated ,it used 1 1/2 tanks to do this yard, and the lawnkeeper used 3 tanks of juice ,bit thirsty, so last night I was prowling through u tube to find videos of this beast and the usual problems ,firstly I will take off the carby and give a good clean ,new air filter ,get new springs for the Governor as these ones have been stretched and twisted and maybe a new plug and that should sort it.

only bought it as my other mower has got problems with the muffler stud bolts they keep coming off and won't stay on,tried lock tight, off they came so now I have got some threaded bar same size as the stud bolt and am going to try to fit these instead to see if they stay on.

The Briggs is a 4 stroke and if it is running ok then leave it alone, changing the air filter is probably the only thing that will help with the fuel consumption

I'm of the a school of putting up with little problems rather than pull it apart and possibly make more.
If it ain't broke don't fix it is sometimes a good idiom.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

G'day all
On a side-note, this is a more modern iteration of the name 'Lawnkeeper'.
Originally, a brand used by the Sunbeam Corporation.

Victa would have gained access to that name with the Sunbeam takeover of Victa
in the 1970s.

The Sunbeam Lawnkeeper was essentially a Victa Corvette under another name.
Victa just redeployed this rather generic sounding name for their lowest price point mowers.
A bit like Mitsubishi using the Mirage nameplate for their latest 3 cylinder economy car even though it is a different type of car to their late 1990s Lancer based 4 cylinder hatchback of the same name.

Hello Mowerfreak
Actually, not true...
The original Lawnkeepers were distinct designs - some with USA origins; others, AUS based.
They were not copies of any other AUS mowers.

You are right though - Victa did re-deploy the name laugh

+ a big one to this.
Odds on that the air cleaner foam has never been washed out, since new. So it may need replacement.

This makes the engine run very rich, and greatly accelerates bore wear as well. Used to see this on many small Briggs engines that used this air filter setup, back in the 1970's.

Most of the Briggs engined push mowers back then used a snorkel and remote paper element filter, and so avoided this particular problem.

Gadge

You might be interested to know that the high arch Lawnkeeper pictured in that link is the model that was the subject of the Sunbeam Incident.

Ahh yes, the frightening Sunbeam Incident ... HERE.
Still spoken of in hushed tones around camp fires [insert sounds of wolves howling].

We might have a Victa Lawnkeeper incident pretty soon if my Chonda can't get sorted.

MF please don't destroy the base, I don't care about the motor but Victa bases are worth saving
