The Briggs is a 4 stroke and if it is running ok then leave it alone, changing the air filter is probably the only thing that will help with the fuel consumption

I'm of the a school of putting up with little problems rather than pull it apart and possibly make more. If it ain't broke don't fix it is sometimes a good idiom.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

G'day all On a side-note, this is a more modern iteration of the name 'Lawnkeeper'. Originally, a brand used by the Sunbeam Corporation.
Victa would have gained access to that name with the Sunbeam takeover of Victa in the 1970s.

The Sunbeam Lawnkeeper was essentially a Victa Corvette under another name. Victa just redeployed this rather generic sounding name for their lowest price point mowers. A bit like Mitsubishi using the Mirage nameplate for their latest 3 cylinder economy car even though it is a different type of car to their late 1990s Lancer based 4 cylinder hatchback of the same name.

The Briggs is a 4 stroke and if it is running ok then leave it alone, changing the air filter is probably the only thing that will help with the fuel consumption + a big one to this. Odds on that the air cleaner foam has never been washed out, since new. So it may need replacement. This makes the engine run very rich, and greatly accelerates bore wear as well. Used to see this on many small Briggs engines that used this air filter setup, back in the 1970's. Most of the Briggs engined push mowers back then used a snorkel and remote paper element filter, and so avoided this particular problem.
Cheers, Gadge

You might be interested to know that the high arch Lawnkeeper pictured in that link is the model that was the subject of the Sunbeam Incident.

We might have a Victa Lawnkeeper incident pretty soon if my Chonda can't get sorted.
