Just wondering what the general opinion is regarding rebuilding a Powertorque, give it a hone, new set of rings and bearings. Do they rebuild ok and worth the effort?

Depends how far gone it is. If the bore is good and within limits go for it. Normally if the bearings are good and not noisy or grinding i dont bother changing them. i would do an "on chassis" rebuild just rings and/or piston and usually takes about an hour.

Thanks Bigted, I have probably 10 of them, a number are just a bit low on compression, still running and need a freshen up, gives me something to do and it is always satisfying getting them to run well. They are a good tough little motor

Yes I need a module and I'm going to do your mod.......... just doing other jobs. It was great here in Bundy when we had the old granny with a container and big shed full of old mower parts she sold cheap..... It was heaven..........maybe you saw her card I posted. She has sold the lot and moved on to a better paying job. She was a legend and as a single mum years ago started fixing her mower and puling them apart, it grew and she used to have a stand at old machinery shows and selling cheap new parts etc etc etc........ She knew what stopped them and how to fix them as well...... Don't call or email as she has gone.. speedy ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/10/full-8869-30773-mower_wrecker.jpg)

Speedy, what I have found with the mod, is once you have cut the cam, you fit 3 thin washers under the cam, this lifts it up about 1mm and this will shut the mower off completely if you go to the start position on the control. This is where the idle screw in the cap comes into play, you just screw it in till you have the idle speed at what you want and you are good to go

Bigted, when you are rebuilding these do you run a hone through the bore and what ring gap do you give them, 10 thou? I haven't pulled the conrod out of one yet, I assume it is held in by the starter engager pin and I would assume this is a right hand thread. Does it require any special tool to remove it. The only one I pulled apart was rusted solid so was of little help to me to get apart

Hi Norm, yes, definitely a hone and ring end gap 10-15 thou. There is a special tool for the starter pin, well actually there's 2 for the 2 different pin types, of which i have neither. A cold chisel and a hammer works for me and like speedy said "a tap and they usually come off pretty easy". A liberal dose with oil on reassembly and make sure you coat the new head gasket with oil when re-assembling so it doesn't burn out after a few hours of use.
Cheers, Ted

Thanks Bigted, not sure how many of these Powertorques I have here, but now that Victa has stopped making the 2 stroke, before too long they will disappear and the 2 stroke motor is still needed in some situations for grass mowing. Just look at the prices that Victa 24's still pull and how old are they. There is still a need for this sort of equipment. The new stuff with all the extra safety bits added on make them into a heavy, bulky machine

I agree Norm, there is a demand for 2 strokes and personally i prefer a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke any day of the week.

Bigted, a good 2 stroke will blow the doors off any 4 stroke, I might start really looking a bit harder for them. Once I get the carb sorted on them they work really well
