All this HD8 chatter got me into having a start on mine, had it for a year now & haven't touched it. first was a wash down then see if the motor is ok... Guess what?

What's the ultimate plan? Full refurb or will she stay in her work clothes?
On a completely different subject, how are you getting on with 'Thunderbird 1' smile

Old work clothes (like my Mini tractor8),with new looking motor though (some new parts). Not a big fan of Old "n" shiny.. In saying that my plan for T1 is shiny,
It's on pause. Need sand blasting unit, planned to have it in july but a new Bullbar got in the way..

I have found the original style front wheels but having issues getting to australia from the U.S. mower store.
I did know of a site the would purchase in the U.S. then send to where ever for a cost..

Hi Paul you are the man on this stuff, any idea as to how to remove these Greenfield steering wheels. I tried one in the press a couple of years ago to see if I could straighten it up on the spline,(I assumed it was splined?)but it didn't look like budging, any chance they are screwed on?

Yeah Norm I do have a method.
Remove nut then I give it a good spray with a rust penetrating stuff,
then put the nut on, level with top of thread ( I'm guessing you know what I mean). now I'll tap the nut with a small sledgy while pulling up on the steering wheel
It is better if someone can help by pulling on both sides of the steering wheel ( Pull from where the outer ring & spars meet... No spline just a Key way, tapered shaft..

But, but, but, they are so god damn ugly!
As to the steering wheel removing technique, in old cars we pushed up with both knees while smacking the centre with a big hammer.

I feel the brilliant video by S-Dooper shows a brilliant and
careful selection of soundtrack from that famous Coppola movie.

Combine that with the temptation of Trev's 'old cars' and I immediately
thought of this video. Coppola starts at 8:05.

Thanks Paul and Trev, got one of them off and as you say, taper and keyed. Jack the Tucker story was such a great story and the end was enough to bring tears to an old mans eyes
