Hi Guys I need some help identifying this mower so I can buy parts (belts) for it.

When I bought it I was told it was about 8 years old and it was a McCullough.

But I can't find any reference ID or tags, etc. on it anywhere.

Here's an Image of this mower if I have added it right..

I'm not much on ride on's but it looks like a Stiga not McCullough.

From what I understand made in Sweden and parts are astronomical.

Take the belts off and take them to a bearing shop, they should be able to match them

keep looking, there will be a tag, most likely a little silver one, on the body some where, it will have a model number on it, most come out of the same factory now, so as Norm has said, take the belts off and take them to a bearing/belt supply. if the belt has a number stamped on it, a mower shop will be able to identify it for you.

Thanks so much guys..

I lied a bit in my initial post as the mower was on EBay For Sale yesterday. I didn't want anyone else to buy it before I went and looked at it. My apologies about that. It was listed for auction with a minimum bid of $450.00 and a buy it now price of $700.00. I paid $450.00 for it with a set of Ramps and it's being delivered today by the previous owner.

Not so sure yet on how many belts there are in total but one of the belts has numbers printed on it so that should be fine to match up. It appears to have been fitted with a new engine at some stage, a Briggs & Straton 17.5HP ELS500 and the engine runs perfectly.

It's some kind of chain & sprocket drive to a simple (hopefully) gearbox. Everything was too slack to actually drive it yesterday but I bought it anyway, even it it's a project to get back to a usable stage.

So it will be a strip down and rebuild to get it running I think.. Luckily for me I have retired as a motor mechanic and have nothing but time on my hands.. What I can't buy as a genuine part I can adapt or remake...

If anyone can shed more light on this, I'd appreciate it..

OK For those who are interested in this ride on, I found out what it is and where it came from.

I was made in China by a company called Crownwell China Pty Ltd. It's model number is HG-795

That's a bit of detective work there!
It shows the degree to which garden machinery has become the province
of mega-factories that sell their products to 'manufacturers' who
then claim the make as being of their own manufacture.

The interesting thing about that link is:

The address is certainly not a factory.
And 11-50 employees didn't make all those products.
I guess Crown Well is the sales, distribution & export company.

The fact that they make their products for various 'customers' in
"Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand" shows how complex it is to
identify what actual brand your machine was sold as. The brand name
is 'custom made' to suit the customer. A different bonnet, change
of colour, and other cosmetic changes, and X company has a new mower.

I guess my question is: how do you get spare parts without knowing
the actual 'customer' it was sold to? It could be any number of 'makes'.

All very confusing for the poor consumer. frown

Yep, for sure that is the main problem with an 'orphan', such as this one. Just as well it was cheap!
I'd say it's unlikely that this model was marketed by any of the major brands, but of course I could be wrong.

The other headache with these 'generic' products out of China is lack of documentation.

Stuff that we would regard as fundamental, like owners/service manuals and illustrated parts lists, are just not something the Chinese see as necessary to produce, if left to their own devices. They are much the same way with providing spare parts, too.

Thanks Guys for your added comments..

I have been able to get in touch with Parts suppliers in China, England, NZ and here in Australia. Apparently the actual mowers stop being produced 3 years ago. In China they were known as China Well HG-795 - T180, the UK these mowers are known as Wenmark Tiya T180, in NZ they are known as MGG Gizmo T180, in Australia they are known as Energytech T180.

The T180 represents the 17.5HP powered model.

There were 4 models made and each with a smaller engine than mine:- 12.5, 13.5, 15.5 & 17.5 HP.

Each of the Parts Suppliers who also sold the machines has provided me with Full Owners, Service & Illustrated Parts Manuals and just looking at the parts I need so far (29 different bits & pieces) each has used exactly the same part numbers throughout their respective Parts Manuals. The Queensland bloke even supplied me with Newsletters that detail how to do different services on these mowers, for example; blade sharpening and balancing, belt replacement, deck adjusting, steering adjusting, etc.

I'm waiting to see what parts I can get from Queensland and at what costs. I have been provided with individual parts prices from the NZ supplier, I'm just trying to save on postage costs. Still waiting to hear back from the UK and the China rep (Harry Zhou from China Well) is due back from holidays on the 16th so I have to wait to see what I can do with them as well..

Do you guys think it might be useful to provide these documents to Bruce so they can be added to his collection for others to use?

Hi Guys, just an update on my Chinese Ride On Mower.

Hi Bruce here's a small picture of a Blue model of my Chinese Ride On, if you want to add it to the Icon list, instaed of the JD you have there now.

Where you have the icon for the Foreign Ride-on Mower Frames.

After months of hard work and getting the parts I need from a Great Bloke in NZ who still has most parts for these mowers I have managed to get it all working as it should.

I haven't worried about getting the head lights to work as I have no need to use it in the dark so it's still not 100% back to normal.

It runs, well, drives well and cuts very well with new blades...

I've replaced all the belts, the drive chain, all the bearings, the steering joints, the blades and a full service on the engine.

Thanks for the assistance & advice I got here..

Now on the the next project, my Husky LTH 130 I picked up for $500.00.
At least this one is all complete and working well.
It just needs a tidy up..

Good to see you got it going. I went to that Chinese website and was sorely tempted to ask for a price on their "Go Kart" shown there. 1100 cc Fuel Injected 4x4 with winch and all the gear and a claimed, from the factory, top speed of 110kph. I could have a butt load of fun with one of those but would probably never be able to find parts for it.
