So here it is, I believe I paid a fair price but with the intention to undertake a restoration & repower to have a practical mower. Little did I realise how hard parts and service info is on these. I'm super happy with the quality of the machine.

Everyone loves a picture or 2!

No can you ID the mower from the mower number, I cant find any other marking on the frame.

Good looking model, open chain ? Did they have a chain guard, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. Is it a runner ? A few more pics of the engine please. Congratulations!

Hi magic1 and paul_c,

Yes they most certainly did have a guard covering the chain as I'd hate to get hit by one if it broke, chain that is. If I recall correctly the earlier machines had SC on the ID plate while the later ones had 17 in the same place which stands for model 17.

I can't understand why your ID plate has had such a hiding. As far as any identification is concerned I feel that it may have originally been fitted with a Villiers 412 Engine being that it's an 8 blade reel and 20 inch machine and also has the extra mounting on the chassis. I have a 20 inch unit here that originally had a BSA 2 stroke on it and used a different engine mounting arrangement altogether.

Cheers,
BB

Cheers BB, I don't know why its so beat up but once it is back together she will be well cared for.

I have a donor supercut with the chain guard so this will go on mine. the motor runs but is going in the bin, leaky junk. I have a new 5hp B&S

Here it is currently.

Two things have got me stumped and I hope team ODK can offer some advice
1. how do I separate the clutch outer drum from the gear? Note the bad wear pattern on the drive gear, see point 2.
[Linked Image]

2. this bearing is FLOGGED out and needs replacing, how does this come apart?

Any help would be very helpful.

Looks to be all go, don't be to hasty to bin the old engine. It may be of use to someone, looks like a Villiers unit ?

Tacoma (spelling). It uses oil and is not original. I will just give it away.

I have a mark 10 villiers on my donor mower that will be worth something to someone

The engine is in fact a Tecumseh unit. The newer ones aren't that bad as the older versions.

As far as disassembling the clutch set up on a SC is concerned I haven't gotten to that point as mine is fine so I can't really offer much help in that area.

The 5 HP Briggs engine will do rather nicely I'd say.

Cheers,
BB

The motor is pretty old and not worth me fixing.

This bearing is FLOGGED out and has caused a large amount of wear to my drive gears, it needs replacing, how does this come apart?

Hello Magic1 and Mod BB

Great photos for the record there. Really appreciated!
The Supercut are the Penfold's Grange of AUS lawnmowers.

I do not have direct experience with the clutches on these either.
It is of the expanding shoe variety (obviously).
Hopefully, a member will shed some light here.

Hi magic1,

Hows your 20 inch SC project going ?

I must admit that it's sad to see that 18 inch SC wrecked as it's 99% all there and fully restoreable.

Is there anything specific that you need to pull from it as I have one in a far worse state than that and thus would be a better parts donor than a machine that could once again be in a useable condition.

Cheers,
BB

BB, the project is going well, there unfortunately is a massive knowledge gap with these mowers. frown

Currently the mover is looking like this

[Linked Image]

Totally stripped down and going through replacing all the bearings, which are std off the shelf at auto parts stores and CHEAP, about $4 each.

the front roller takes 6101
the drive shaft takes 6202
the rear drum takes 6303

While i don't want to pinch bits from such a complete mower it does have a few issues including no catcher.

I needed 1x clutch arm from the donor and all of the drive gears. Due to not replacing the bearings in my 20" frame the gears have worn down.

Let me know mate and i appreciate your help.

Any tips let me know.

Hello M1

More great photos for the record on this mower.
SC0408 seems to be an early production number too!

The bearing numbers are most helpful for the record.
Had the previous tenant done regular maintenance the gears
would have been perfect.

p.s. You might find this of interest:-

Hi magic1 and Mod CJ,

I must admit I'll be very excited (in an interested way ofcourse) to see how this mower works for you once it's all back together and any teething problems are sorted out.

Just wondering if you could get someone to do a video of this "Supercut" doing something for what it was built for, and that's cutting superb lawn surfaces.

Cheers,
BB yay

Hi all, Just wondering how you removed the reel on the Supercut? I have read the manual and it does not say anything about removing the drive sprocket but I cant see any other way to remove it. It appears the drive sprocket maybe screwed on? If so it is supper tight and does not want to budge. Any help appreciated.

Also my drive sprocket has lost a tooth. Does anyone have a spare?

cheers

Hello drew2229au

The sprocket will be screwed-on and it will be a LH thread.
A swift shock with softwood and mallet in a clockwise direction
should release the thread.

You can 'lock' the reel when doing this by placing a similar
wood block in the reel spirals.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jack, LH thread, no wonder it was tight. Is the other end the same?
