Just gently bumped a stump and the threaded end of the tierod popped out of the tierod end.The tierod end seems to be two bits of pressed steel making up each site of the thread. Cannot find new part at Outdoorking, so must maybe weld the two sides together ? Any other ideas ?

First try.....

They should be able to help.
You can try to weld / braze it back together.
Remember to get the front wheels straight ahead when reassembling, I use two planks to line up front and rear wheels.

Maybe post a photo of which bit broke. Someone may have one laying around or a suitable replacement if you cannot get one.

Hello SuperDooper

Paul, there seems to be something special here.
A manufacturer still supplying parts for their older lawnmowers...

It's a pity that many iconic names have changed hands, and their is
zero commitment to support their older products.

Do you know if Greenfields has stayed with its original owners?

Morning all,

My understanding is that the business is still family owned. The old bloke died last year and the son now runs the place.
A little while back Jack you posted a link to a judgement in relation to copyright of the drive system. In there it is suggest the company sold itself to itself in a bit creative tax accounting but the reality is it never really changed hands.

Re: parts availability. Poor Greenfield has never made a cent out of me from parts (except blades and belts sometimes). The reason being that almost everything on them is either fabricated (and so can be repaired or replaced from stock steel) or is available from an engineering supplier as in the case of the tie rod end above. I should qualify that by saying that I have only really dealt with pre-1990 machines. Their 'simple Simon' design philosophy slipped slightly with later models - but only slightly

Well said, prd. The KISS principle. I really like how easy they are to fix, for me it's pre 1985 Machines.

Yep, Greenfield is still family controlled. Lewis Reinhold is the current head serang, and has been for some years now.

His dad Theo was the founder, and this obit cites him as also being involved in the startup of Rover: http://www.power-equipment.com.au/article.asp?ArticleID=2276

Interestingly, Lewis also ran a 'hobby business' on the side from 1991 to 2010. This was Beeman Australia, an importer and distributor of the Beeman and Theoben brands of air rifles, and a number of other brands of air rifle accessories and sights.
He closed it down after Greenfield's last relocation, as it was too difficult/expensive to transfer his firearm dealers licence to the new premises.

Cheers,
Gadge

An amusing encounter with Greenfield.

I emailed Greenfield a couple of months ago inquiring about, what year the
Evolution 2000 M 11 A was produced.

I received an email back saying that the Evolution 2000 series was first released in the mid 1990's.
I was also told that there was no such model as the evolution 2000 mk11 A.

I emailed back a picture of this non existent mower + the cover from my Greenfield owners manual which the same guy had sent me a couple of years earlier.

I then received a reply saying he had seen the pics and asked what size & brand of motor was in it.
I told him it was a B&S Vanguard 20hp V twin engine ( I didn't mention it had been updated since new.)

Next email from him asked if the engine was an upgrade since new, as the
20Hp Vanguard Engine has only been around for a about 4 years.

My next reply to him was according to the B&S engine ID site, my codes said it was manufactured in 2005.
I asked him if they had an historical record of all the Greenfield mowers produced.

He replied that at present they didn't but were working on it.

I then replied, "Good but I hope to god they don't let you anywhere near it".

A fortnight has passed and I have not received any further correspondence from him.

A truly great mower (except for the 34" max cutter deck)but the PR dept could do with a bit of spit & polish. lol
