Why are some lawnmowers easy to pull start but some are not.

Lots of reasons but compression, size of starter and size/weight of blade carrier are all contributing factors.

Some have a decompression feature built in that makes pull starting a lot easier as well.

I have 2 briggs and stratton, one starts easy, one doesnt, three victas 2 start hard and one easy, and one 4hp tecumseh that is the easyest of all to start. none of them stop until you want them to, an all seem to have good compression, far as i can tell, dont know anything about decompression features. I have even swaped all the carbys around and they all do the same? cheers.

So what you're actually saying is some start easier than others as opposed to how hard they are to pull?

Well both, some are hard to start and pull. Or easy to pull hard to start?? I cannot get my head around it. Identical motors. acting completely different. Even swapped starters

Assuming all things are equal and have been interchanged with no difference the only thing i can suggest is valve clearances or possibly one has been overheated somewhere along the way. Do they both spin freely and easily with spark plugs removed?

Valve clearance? I recon you are right about the overheating/wrong fuel. They were picked up of the side of the road. Yes they all spin freely and easily when the spark plug is removed. Do you want one?

Sounds to me like as they would be different ages and different amounts of wear and tear.As mentioned some could have overheated. It's like my sets of VC-Mustangs and VC-160 Auto drives. Some start easier than others even though they are almost identical.Just sounds normal to me.It would be different if they were all new. After all they have all had different uses and on different grasses at different, etc, and different owners. Some would have cared and other wouldn't have given a rats bottom about them. They were just a garden tool,it's only people like us that really care about them. So yes just sounds like used mowers to me.I wouldn't worry to much, unless the ones that are hard to start are really hard to start.I'd fix them so that they are easier to start.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Thanks bazz I thought I was incorrectly posting. By the way I got another lawnmower today, the catch is, the lady wants me to give it a service and get it running and she will give me 80 bucks plus parts. What the??

Hi seanw, Gadge has given you excellent advice there mate, members of ODK have fallen into that trap before and it all ended badly. My advice, leave well enough alone.
Please do not PM me asking for support. Please post your questions in the appropriate forums, as the replies it may receive may help all members, not just the individual member. Kindest Regards, Darryl
