Hi all, I have recently purchased a Scott Bonnar 45 which needs a restore. The clutch is vibrating and the blades are blunt. Time to pull it apart. Thanks to OutdoorKing I just ordered a heap of parts.

Have you watched any of the video's regarding the pull down and reassembly of the Model 45 done by DeeJay as they'll give you a good idea of what you are up against.

Can you also please post up a series of good close up shots of your machine, not forgetting a good photo with the chain case removed so that we can assess what may need to be done in that area.

Thanks for your advice. I have since watched some videos and ready to tackle this project.

I purchased this SB about 3 weeks ago for a small sum. The clutch is not engaging causing a a large vibration, hense why I am re-building it. The motor starts fine and runs quiet.

I'm thinking that the clutch half that has previously been replaced is the issue and is again requiring replacement as it's flogged out on the motor output shaft hole..

Remove the 2 set screws that hold the clutch in place on the shaft and once removed see how much clutch body wobble there is on the output shaft. If there is then you clutch is due for another replacement.

Honestly you just can't beat the really early cast iron clutch bodies as they last forever.

Hi MickKelly, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's always nice to welcome aboard another Scott Bonnar Model 45 owner, as we all like to learn new things and tinker here.

I would have to agree with BB that a worn inner clutch half maybe the problem here...and it is a shame that the really early cast iron clutch bodies are no longer available.

Having removed the Briggs engine, is there any evidence of cracking in the engine deck rails form all that vibration?
If so, that will have to be addressed before we go any further.
Unfortunately the pics of the chain case area are not close up enough for me to access the condition of the chains and sprockets...could you please upload some more particularly of the sprockets where not`covered by the chains? Thanks mate.

Thankyou for the advice both BB and Daryl. I have ordered all new Clutch housing and cork seals and nuts and bolt pretty much a whole new clutch from ODK. I will upload photos of the sprockets Darryl. After removing the engine their appears to be no cracks and the chassis as i will call it is in great condition.

Having a look at your pics, I can tell you that the land-roll clutch looks fine...(please post another pic when you replace the cork lining)
(1) The cutter sprocket is beyond limits and needs to be replaced.
(2) The 12 tooth motor sprocket is also beyond limits and needs to be replaced.
(3) The secondary drum sprocket is worn, but is still usable, as is the large inter sprocket .
(4) The clutch cone looks fine.
(5)The primary and secondary chains (if not all) need replacing. (This is because you are fitting new sprockets.)

The chassis and cylinder reel look great and the resto looks to be coming along fine.
