Someone nearby has put out a Viking Stihl mower, it says that it's made in New Zealand, I couldn't get a photo of it, anyone know anything about these sort of mowers? Looks a little old and not like anything on their current website.

Chances are it could be a masport like this...


I am pretty sure there is another variant made in NZ as well, badged as both stihl/viking and husqvarna... like this..

Masport and Lawnmaster both made mowers here in New Zealand for sale in the stihl shops over here.

The top mower will be made by Masport and all parts etc.. are identical.

The bottom ones where made by Lawnmaster (Steelfort) and were made for viking before Masport began making the Viking mowers.

Viking was a brand that was sold exclusive to stihl shops here and there are also viking ride on mowers that are re-badged MTD and Cub Cadet mowers.

Got a photo, not brilliant but best I could do. The cowling is rivetted on so I'm guessing I have to drill out the rivets in order to get to the pull start mechanism.

Tiger, Dont drill out the pop rivets. Take the fuel tank off and then remove the cooling shoud. You will be able to access the starter from the inside of the cooling shroud.

If you need help repairing the starter just ask, but I am sure you will be fine.

Thanks Jaffa, I kept thinking about why you'd need to drill out the rivets just to change a starter cord, only just got this one and it's a little different to others I've worked on. Appreciate your help

Got the starter sorted out but not getting spark, will start anothet thread.
