Hello All
I have been given a brush cutter labelled Tanaka TBC-233 that doesn't run any more.
I'm having difficulty finding any details on this model.
It has a "different" (no gaskets, diaphragms or jets like the Walbro for a 230 or 232)style of carburettor marked O53B UI and what seems be a separate fuel pump on the bottom of the crankcase.
Anyone have any ideas on it's "true" identity and where I might find some further detailed information.
thanks
Mark

Mark, It should be model TBC-23R which is quite old. I think the parts list is in the parts list and manuals are of the forum for brushcutters. Just checked and it is not there at present but will upload the parts list tonight.

Thanks for uploading that Bruce. The carburetor looks rather like a 1950s Amal Monobloc except for the weird float chamber - and I don't currently understand how that would work upside-down, which is usually expected of a brush cutter.
Do you think describing it as a "Bush Cutter" on each page of the IPL was a typo, or they thought that was a good description?

Thnak you for your quick responses I added some photos of the Model#, Carburettor O53B UI?, and the pump/primer for your further comment. The pump/primer may be the problem, no fuel flow after primimg or a few attempsts to start. Have replaced the fuel filter, lines and cleaned the pump. Any suggestions on whether there is an OEM lit for the pump etc? thanks Mark ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2013/10/full-3962-12826-tbc_233_modelserial_6160.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2013/10/full-3962-12827-tbc_233_carburettor_6153.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2013/10/full-3962-12828-tbc_233_pumpprimer_6157.jpg)

Mark, The parts list that I uploaded is the same unit including the carby. Note that the primer, pump diaphragms are available as well as the fuel pickup.

I've got one of these, or at least one very similar.
The problem with it is that the diaphragm in the fuel pump has gone hard, so it'll start and run for a little while when it's primed, but conks out after a while.
I've found the fuel primer bulb in the spare parts on outdoorking, but I can't find a kit for the fuel pump on there or anywhere else; does anyone know where I might find one?
The rest of the machine is in good condition so it'd be a pity to bin it.

welfares, The part numbers that you require are: 6710400121 6700400121 6740400121 When looking for parts a good suggestion is to email the online store to see if they can help because they have a lot of old stock which is not listed on the site.

I should have mentioned, I found the part numbers- 671-04001-213 Gasket 670-04001-211 Diaphragm 674-04001-211 Valve from a manual for a TBC-373 at http://www.manualslib.com/ It's not exactly the same machine but its close, and the pump is the same unit.
Where did you get your part numbers Bruce? I couldn't find anything on them.
The shop has sold out and can't get anymore, there's a website in America that has them in stock but then I have to deal with American Postage, Which is several times the price of the part.
I was wondering if I could just get a bulb/walbro type carb off ebay, and bolt that on instead, I think they have the pump internal? And from what I've measured the bolt spacing should fit.
How accurate do I need to be with my jetting for the carb? There's tons on there for 49cc-ish engines.

welfares, We have the parts list on file but note that you drop the last number and the numbers that I quoted are correct for OZ. We did have the parts some time back but used them on a bike engine that we were repairing. I do have stuff coming in from the states about every six weeks but would need to know the site that has them in stock because the supplier does not make them anymore. As to fitting another carburetor I would not be able to advise you which one to use sorry.

Was that one of the American Bike Bug kits for a motorized bicycle? I came across them in my search, they look cool.
The shop I found with them on their website was http://www.lavernepowerequipment.com/
For the moment, I've done the edges on my lawn.
I'm not that attached to it, it was just cheap(read free), so I wasn't keen to spend too much on it.
I made a new diaphragm, I used one of the gaskets as a template and made a copy of the gasket on some gasket material.
I cut a square out of a chemical resistant nitrile disposable glove, and stuck that to the gasket with a small amount of glue in the sandwich maker (to make everything nice and flat), you could also use an iron but I don't have one at the moment.
I didn't need much glue, just enough to hold it in place while I cut the holes through the rubber (which is a pain, because it's tough) and assemble the pump.
It's running for the moment, unfortunately I didn't take any photos, as I didn't really expect to work.
As it's a disposable glove and not proper gasket material, I'm not sure how long it'll last, but I'll see.

Wow, that sounds like a really cool temporary solution. How long did it last?

Hi Everyone,
Is someone can donate to me the old gasket and diaphragm and maybe by chance I can get these part manufactured. Also, we have the complete air filter base assembly for Tanak TBC373 available and currently not listed. We also have the in-line primer bulb/pump and fuel cap available.

I have a semi functioning one here. I bought it, put fuel in and it ran. One day, I can pull it down and take the gasket and diaphragm out - bit apprehensive to do as it works. I will ask down at the mower shop next visit and see if they have any NOS parts for those quoted numbers
Anyone know what the black knob on the carby does?
By the way CM, can you tell me how much the air filter housings are? I have a couple of old stihls which have the same plastic cap and I need 2 or 3
