Hi All. New member, first post.
A few years ago I was given a 1986 Scott Bonnar 45 and the quality of the information on this forum has inspired me to pull her down and bring her back to life.
I have removed the reel and bottom plate as well as the engine from the frame.
I did manage to get it running prior to pulling it down. I did change the diaphram in the fuel pump, clean fuel etc but could only start it with fuel down the cylinder and after further investigation found the carby base bowed and 2 gaskets on the inlet port. Will worry about that later, plenty of other things to do.
I am having trouble removing the thrust bearing from the inner clutch. Watching Deejay's video I took that the bearing just slid out after the cotter pin was removed or does it need to be punched out from behind?
Thanks,
Craig

Hi craig.a, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have another Scott Bonnar owner on board. grin

The cotter pin is captive: it cannot be removed, it can only be loosened; then the clutch can slide off the crankshaft extension (PTO). To remove the inner clutch half, just undo the nut a few turns and gently tap the cotter pin down. When it releases, you can then remove the clutch half from the shaft.
You then push out the thrust bearing from behind. wink

Thanks for that Deejay.

I think I am up for a new inner clutch housing on this one because the pin is flogged at the end and it easily came out of the housing. I did notice prior to pulling it down that it was making a knocking noise on the shaft when I was trying to start it and there was a fair bit of back and forward movement (10-15mm).

Damage is very similar to your experience as my cotter and engine shaft key look the same as yours did when you removed them.

Will order the parts from the online store shortly.

Regards,
Craig.
