i have this old pace mower . it has only a piece of the original decal left on fuel tank.i would really like to replicate what it originally was like. the pic shows sorta a bit of it . you could probably guess the rest but it looks like (PACE) then below ( MODEL ?) i think maybe model 3 going by your youtube vid of one similar?
does anyone know for sure. cheers bazz

Pace Mower? When the pics are back up could you post the whole mower please,
If this is what I think it is then you will be hard pressed to find someone with an original Image, let alone many who have even seen one before...As it appears to be one of the first recorded models Pace made it will be a 56/57, and a Model 1. Red On Silver Base With Red Wheels. Model 2s ran a Villiers Mk3 engine and the tank was on the cowl not in the bars. Need the engine type. IF it has the villiers Mk2 midget then it predates all Known recorded info for Pace and will be almost unique, putting it against Victas Model 2 Fan And Model 1 Rotomo. And Unfortunately I would have to kill you for it! lols,But id say its a model 1. Pace used Engine Codes as model Id for early mowers. Get the engine brand so we can identify it and you may be able to track down an advert somewhere :)

Love it!. Its not pre 56, So you may keep your life Lol. smile
Its running the Villiers midget 98cc making it an early model 1 Code, it would be a 1V98.
The odd thing is, the first Mk 3 came with the fuel tank on the cowl, this clearly does not, either way its an early model and a gem of a mower, pull the cowl off sometime and check the date code on the flywheel, I'm guessing it will be 1956, simply because it retains its early handle bar tank set up and not on the cowl making it maybe slightly later.

Ok, if your careful, gently clean the surrounding area of the tank where the decal would run, sample sections periodically for whats being removed then proceed with water, then metholated spirits, then turps. No scrubbing or brushing just wipe it over with a rag until you see how the remains react. When its clean assess whats left under the rust dust and grime, turps will darken what is left and often an old decal is etched into the metal, you may be able to trace the remaining letters onto some paper and replicate that way.
I've done this many times on Cyclops toys and pedal cars and the occasional mower...maybe this will help.

Really awesome mower you have Gizmo, wish I had one...I do have an engine though, lols.

Hi gizmo, as this is possibly the oldest Pace that we have seen on this forum, will you please take plenty of pics as you go along....this will create a great archive and come in handy for future members.
Thanks for sharing it with us,
cheers2

Hey Gizmo,
If your not already,I suggest you might try and bid for this, may be invaluable. Its appears to be showing the simplex engine but on the lower might be the other engine options, very hard to read it all, give it a shot if your not already.Pace stuff is VERY rare and doesnt come up often smile

Hi gizmo, and well done mate on that find...it shows the detail of the decal very well and could be replicated as a decal or perhaps by a sign writer if a decal could not be fabricated. wink
cheers2
