Hi all just wanted to share some pictures of my model 7 and 7A that I got off eBay in the last few weeks.Currently not going but will see what I can do about that. Not that much into four strokes but they fit into my collection. Now have from the Model 1 Rotomo right through to the Model 12.As well as others after that, but you know what I mean.
These guys will get restored, but will have to wait until after the move.
Here they are...
[Linked Image]
The model 7 is the red one. Also known as the Four Star. Was made in 1960-61.Should have a handle bar badge, saying Four Star.Which it doesn't.Now I need to find one.
The model 7A then is the green one.Was known as the Four Stroke (I don't know why they didn't come up with a better name.I mean how basic of a name is that?)Was produced in 1961-62.This one didn't come with handle bar badge.Which I find strange because in the Victa green book it does. However in the book it has the Four Star badge which is wrong. Also the Four Star badges where red so I guess it would look out of place.I'd say that they just copied the picture over as they are the same mower just a couple of years apart.
[Linked Image]
The Four Star has half of the front flap (as you can see here) There should be a metal part hanging down from the plastic top flap, but it isn't there.

The Four Stroke has the rear flap (as you can see hanging underneath). This is a metal flap. Both the Four Star and Four Stroke should have front and back flaps, but over time they get damaged and fall off.I'm happy to see that at least I have some of them.

I'm pleased to see how clean the engine on this one is.I didn't clean it it was how I got it.Could be a good sign of not much use. Here's hoping.

Any questions please ask always happy to share some knowledge.
Maybe someone knows something more about these that I don't know.Always happy to know more about these guys.

Good point Joe, I was asking myself the same question...maybe something like a grooming rake to make the grass stand up before the blades cut it.... wink
I would really like to know thw answer.

Sorry guys I have no idea what the flaps are for.I only know that these mowers and both Sheerline's had them.Nobody has ever explained what the idea was behind them. However I will make some enquires and see what I can come up with.

All Mowers In the US have flaps, The front ones I believe are to make the grass stand up (as Dee Jay said)

And the back ones are to stop rocks and debris hitting your ankles and legs

The early (4 height lever) Hondas had top-pivoted metal stone shields at the back. The later ones (single or twin height lever) have a suspended rubber flap at the back. The rubber flaps don't last all that long, and should be replaced when they start to fall apart.

Just an update I got the Four star running(The red one).Must admit it runs well.I even mowed Ty's lawn with it.The four stroke however will require quite a bit more work the engine is very tight.I think it may have some kind of bearing problem. Will have to wait and see.

Sorry vccomm I missed your question.Reason why they are at different heights is the model 7 (red one) was the first head they used on these engines. The one on the 7A was the newer version of that first design. The model 7 I believe was (Well according to my books) was the only model (With Victa) that had that head.

Now that I have got another flywheel for this lad I want to try and get it going. The only problem is that somebody has changed a few things around.Which has made this very difficult for me to do.
This model was one of the few that ran the Zenith carby. Now somebody in there infounat wisdom decided to put the linkage arms of the Walbro carby on it.Which I could clearly see wasn't going to and or wasn't working the way that it should.
However now the problem is I have to make up some new linkages. The problem with this is I can't find a lot of info on.
Here's what I have so far.
[Linked Image]
So I almost have this linkage where and how it is suppose to be.I'm just having trouble with the second linkage.

Now I have to do one from the choke, marked as 1 here. Now I don't know if it is suppose to go to number 2 or 3.Does anybody have any idea? Or better still does anybody have any pictures they could take so I could see how they go?
That would properly be better. As I just can't find enough info to show me where or how the linkage should go.

Choke rod goes From choke to position 3

Govenor to throttle link goes in the other hole

The spring joins what would be the centre of the govenor link rod where you have made the S bend. Just sharpen the S bend a little more and join the spring to the part of the S closest the engine. Then the other end to govenor spring lever (Your 3)in the 3rd hole(closest the engine).

The choke rod goes from the choke(your 1) to the slot/slide on the control lever(your 3)

Position 2 is not used. hope this helps.

And ive seen the rear flap on the sheerline 6 as well,is this accurate blumbly? Cause I have one for mine in some parts I scored, and wnat to know if its correct smile

Sorry my scanner is not working, but your almost there smile
