Hi. I'm back. I haven't got a photo yet of the Victa but the info I found is 130902 0439 - 01 77063010 Serial No:11 003 - 0368, model 5 - 26 Series 7. I hope this will help in putting a manufacturing date to her. Thanks Glen.

Glen, that engine was manufactured on 30 June 1977, so the mower was probably made later the same year or early in 1978. The engine is 13 cubic inches (213 cc), first design series, vertical crankshaft, plain main bearings, rewind starter.

This is the engine Operator's Manual:

This is the engine's Illustrated Parts List:

Hi. Thanks Grumpy for the information. It is much appreciated. The old girl is much older than I thought. Still starts 2 / 3 pull. I'll do some searching for the info I am after and, if I have trouble locating it I'll come back. Thanks again. Glen.

Hi. I've just been tightening some nuts and bolts on the Victa 5 - 26. The chain is extremely loose and I need to adjust / tighten it before I can put the old girl to use. I've had here up in the air, front, back and sides and there is no adjustment set -up. Can someone please help on how to adjust same? Thanks, Glen D.

mower man said it is supposed to have an adjustable idler to take up the chain slack - see this thread:
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=20141

I can't find the adjuster in the illustrated parts list, which is in the parts and manuals section of this site.

Hi grumpy, Thanks for your reply. Does anyone know the part number for the adjustable idler for the Victa 5 - 26 or/and does anyone have a photo of same? It must have been taken off the mower at some time in the past. Anyone know where I could source one and approximate cost, please? Thanks Glen D,

Hi Ken, I notice in one of the posts you may have an idler to adjust the chain on a Victa 5 26 rideon mower. Is this correct and how much are you asking for it? As this is my first rideon, I didn't know it was missing as I am just a learner. Thanks Glen D.

Hi GgordanN, Sorry if I got your title wrong. I have read that you have Victa 5 26 gearbox etca and was wondering if you had the idler/ adjustment for the drive chain as mine went missing before I purchased same. Do you happen to have any photos of the idler and how it is Fitted ? Thank you, Glen.

Glen, you may have to get the model and series etc exactly right. Ive had a few 8/34 victas here and they have subtle differences. Gear train, deck spindle brakes, brakes, steering.

It may be easier to work out what pitch chain, or style of bearing centred roller you need and buy it from a bearing supplier/farm supply/machinery supply and make it fit the machine yourself.

Most of the machines are made with componants like this anyway.

Cheers, Bob.

Hi Bob. Thanks for your message. Is the info I supplied short of what is needed? It sounds a bit like a Mitsubishi Sigma I had. They had 9 different difs in the same models. As I know very little about machinery I am lost with pitch of chain, style of bearing centred roller etc. Where do I go to learn about this? Thanks Glen D.

Google the chain pitch thing.

Visit a mower shop and get a bit nosey in and around and under some rideons. Theres a few different ways they do things.

Im not sure about how good your info would be to someone who had what you were looking for. Probably good enough i would guess. I was just making an observation.
Short of buying a parts mower, you might be waiting a while before someone shows up with the bit you want but then you just never know.

You can buy sprockets with bearings in the centre.
And you can buy pulleys (Vee belt, flat belt) with bearings in the centre. Some have straight holes some have offset holes, they are designed to work as tensioners. Cars use them for fan belts and air con compressors etc.
Obviously a belt pulley will not work very well with a chain. It will be noisy and wont last long.

According to the parts list, the 5-26 uses Number 41 chain, half inch pitch, 71 links long.

Hi Chum, and a warm welcome to the OutdoorKing forum. grin
I see that you have correctly posted in the "Wanted" forum for a gearbox, However, I hope that one of our members may be able to help you with some info on fixing the problem.
Once again, :welcome: Chum,
cheers2
BTW, GgordonN has not posted on this forum for a long time, unfortunately.

Please do not PM me asking for support. Please post your questions in the appropriate forums, as the replies it may receive may help all members, not just the individual member.

thanks deejay, i have started a post about my problem and have had a great response already(even with my severe lack of info smile
i'd also like to commend those involved with starting and continuing this site, as good info and help with old mowers is hard to come by at most mower shops.
cheers

Hi do you have any photos and/or dimensions of the two engine pulleys? I need to know these since mine is missing these, the part numbers dont exist but I can likely get and MTD one if I know the dimensions. Basically the spacing between the two pulleys and the diameters. Thanks
