If the belt is OK I guess it is fairly sure to be the clutch or the plastic gear, Joe. If it's the gear, by the time you bought a metal one plus got hold of a catcher and belt cover, it would owe you more than it could be sold for. If it's just the clutch cork on the other hand, you can do some pretty serious high-quality mowing for almost nothing.
Yeah I agree, if the gear is sheared off I will be taking the unknown briggs motor off it and recycling the rest. I will start my own thread on it sometime...
Hello everyone, after a 6 month or so break I'm ready to get stuck back into my SB. Had some drama's with engine paint but more on that later (funnily enough I now have chevy orange engine enamel ready to go). I'm really glad to get back on the forums and find that thread on the drive system useful for other members. I can tell this thread will also be a valuable resource to anyone taking on dismantling their clutch.
I'm not a real mower nut but I just love the look of the 430 and 590.
