Odd little thing popped up on Ebay, Anyone able to ID it? Here is what it has: VICTA 18 This old lawn mower attachment came to me from a large lot of old parts etc that someone had accumulated. The previous owner did not know exactly what it did or how it attatched, but said he had not seen one before. He told me it was an attachment for a 1950s Victa 18. It has Farmfitters P/Ltd Melbourne Versatiller, on the front . I do not know any more about this item, but I am sure collectors of old Victa 18s etc will know. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/08/full-5013-2503-kgrhqeokjke4ofchnoboulfqio48_12.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/08/full-5013-2504-kgrhquoki8e5krbyqeboulof_w48_12.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/08/full-5013-2505-kgrhqyokpue4kq_blwsboulylbdq48_12.jpg) As the seller has also mentioned any info on this would be appriciated, if we can work something out about it here, I'm sure we can pass the info on to help them! Personally, I doubt this is the fabled edger attachment that was never made, the design and wheels seem wrong, but I'm sure somone somwherte must have some idea what this is?

That attachment wouldn't be for a VICTA, the axle plates are off a alex Graham mower that had a villiers mark 3 engine, anyway that attachment would fit on the end of a tiller. Imagine a tiller that had an output shaft that connects to a tiller attachment for ploughing and you can detach it and fit the slasher attachment (the eBay item) and off you go. The only farm equipment VICTA was involved with was stationary 2 stroke engines and insecticide sprayer that was a model 2a converted into a mobile pump.So basically it's an attachment for a Rotary hoe.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

I had a feeling it was more something like that, Especially since the plate also says "Versa Tiller" whitch confirms the idea it was from a rather versatile tiller!

Very similar to the Blitz attachment and also another whose name escapes me for the moment.
Would fit on a machine like the Whirlwind or the Masport with the front long arm...but I have not seen that particular name before

If you do get it, I would love to see some more pictures, especially if you can fit it to something, and show it in action.
When i first saw it, i though of a mower with a similar slot to the victa 18, but at the front, then i had to ask my self why you would put a mower on the front of a mower!
A tiller certainly makes alot more sense.
Let us know how you go with the auction!
Cheers Ty

That base look like its from a Champion mower.
Is that a right angle drive? You would need another machine with a PTO to use it?

MVC, if you look through the above posts, we have come to the conclusion that it was an atachment for some form of tiller.
I'm guessing there was a tiller called the 'Versa Tiller' that may have been made by the same mob (farm Fitters) and that this was an accesory to it.
However, while our guesswork seems to fit rather well, no one seems to have actually seen this particular item before, so it may actually be an alien chook from Pluto.
However, I would suggest probablity points more towards the tiller attachment theory.
Hope this helps clear it up.
Also, yes, it does seem reminiscent of a champion, however, looking at the picture, and using the wheels as a guide, I'm thinking this think might be only 12" or so.
Cheers Ty

Its 400mm wide, so 16" and its got the square drive down inside the tube which would suggest it fits the early masport and whirlwind. (perhaps the versatiller was made by masport under licence same as the whirlwind)
Im still not sure if i want it Ty. Need it?? definatley not. Should it fit the tiller as i suspect it would be a great show piece. However a great slasher it will never be. I could not imagine pushing the thing about with any great comfort, since there are a couple of bigbobs and a Deutcher there to use i doubt it would ever be used. We allready have an old Whirlwind in the shed, its got a 5.5hp horizontal shaft honda on it and ergonomically its the worst thing in the world to push. Have since found out why, its meant to have a Mk10 or 12 Villers on it and a 2 speed gearbox. Walking along behind it would probably be Ok, but pusing it is like hell on earth.
If you do want it, or anyone wants it. let me know and i will stay right away. Its definately something for a collector.

I'm not at all sure I would be interested in it, sure, my curiosity is urging me on something shocking, but in all honesty, I'm running out of space as it is, and i dont even have a tiller to begin with, let alone a compatible one.
althoug my mind keeps making crazy ideas, like converting the head of a whipper snipper to fit, or making 90 degree wheel adapters, and somehow mounting it to a model 5 victa.
But that's all getting a litle nuts!
How did you find out about the square drive, did you get in touch with the seller?
No chance you got your hands on more pic's did you?
Cheers Ty

Yeah the seller got back to me with info about the square drive.
I didnt end up bidding. No use to me.
Someone bought it, makes me wonder if they knew what they were buying.
