Has the carby been taken apartprior to the throttle not working properly anymore?

The only thin I can think of to stop the throttle working properly like that is either one of 3 things.

Throttle cable is kinked (unlikely)
The 3 pronged bit that has "this side down" written on it is not in the grooves in the carb body
Or the diaphragm is on backwards.

Thanks Joe.

Photos could also help immensely if one of these is not the cause so we can see whats going on.

I have found sometimes that this can happen when a combination of the rotor, lifter & throttle cable are worn, as the rotor turns, the top edge of it lifts & lowers the lifter (the 3 arms of the lifter rest on the tracks at the top of the rotor) with age, these tracks, and the slight chamfer on the end of the lifter arms can become un-even, and jam-up, this becomes worse as the throttle cable weakens with age & minor kinks. it can also be furthered by use of the wrong springs.

It can be fixed by tidying up the lifter arms, and rotor tracks, fitting new springs and/or throttle cable, or by replacing the lifter and rotor.

Cheers
Ty

yep the diaphram was on backward it had been a couple years since i had pulled one apart, i just whacked it back together the way it was when i pulled it apart not realising what i had done.

too late now to try to start it. but the spark cutout seems wrong, my other victa cuts the spark when the throttle is up top of the air filter chamber, this one cuts the spark when throttle is at bottom of chamber
it doesnt seem right but sticker with markings is long gone so im not sure now.....

Has it got one longer one, and one shorter one, if it does, then the longer one goes into the hole, and the shorter one across. check the smaller rubber boot fits in well first, then put in the long one, after checking the larger boot is in good shape (this one helps it return to the running position) slide it over, and lock it in with the short one running across both.

If my Discription is a little hard to follow, Hopefully this will help

If both pins are the same size, just make sure to push them in well, otherwise, if you can replace one with a long pin.

Also, with the cross-pin, the tip should point toward the diagram cap at an angle.

Hope this helps sort the wires out.

Cheers
Ty
