gray, is your problem that the engine runs too fast, or that the speed control does not change the engine speed?

It is fairly common for 2-stroke engines to overspeed because of air leaks into the intake pipe or crankcase. If this is happening, though, the speed control should still have some effect on the engine speed - but all speeds will be higher than they should be, and the engine will lack power.

Hi Yeah its the speed control it has moved once back to stop mower but it seems very sticky ,i dont follow how the hell does the throttle cable go round such a tight curve to carby or does cable enter from the side of carby thanks graham

I don't understand your explanation, gray. Do you think the problem is at the control end, in the cable itself, or at the carburetor end? You can probably tell by watching the cable inner at the control end when you move the lever. Some of the very old types of control lever have adjustable friction: a central screw that squeezes the lever so that it will stay where it is put. On the more modern plastic ones, the cable can sometimes get squeezed or kinked if the screws are tightened too much. Is the cable lubricated? Also, watch for sharp bends in the cable: that increases the force required.

Hi Thanks for reply
trouble must be carby end,is it a LM or G4 carb,my manual does not show to much deatail re carb end ,does the throttle cable go into carby in through the air intake or does cable go in fromm side of carby, does the cable go all the way down to cary inside breather tube ,how do i get the throttle cable out of airfilter control end,if i could get it out i would be able to tell exactly where its frozen or dry of oil i could then fix it thanks graham

It looks like a G4 carburetor to me but you'll need a Victa plastic carburetor guy if that is where the problem lies. Look at this thread, including the instructions and the video:

the big kink in the snorkel wont be helping matters. originally this would have had a primerless cap and had the carby mounted the other way around with the snorkel facing out to the left side.

you could try moving the throttle lever to the other side of the handle bar and cut a new hole in the cowling for the snorkel to run through.

if it turns out the cable is damaged one from a newer victa should fit.

Yeah theres something wrong with that snorkle and the way the intake is setup.

They had them two ways.

The carb that way and the intake when along under the side of the motor then stepped up over the body and out the other side.
Or they had just the 90deg bend on the end with the carb facing the other way. (these rub on the tyre if left to hang and wear through and the engine sucks dirt/grass)

So i would suggest that you need a new snorkel and throttle cable off something else.

Or you could pull the carb etc off and flip it over. You will need to take the primer cap/face off and put it on upside down. Then see if you can sort out the throttle cable, if it is not damaged.

Only other issue would be the vacuum lines and the stop wires if they are the correct lengths to work the opposite way around.
