Hi Darron, and welcome to Outdoorking. I think Villiers parts tend to be a bit difficult to come by these days. It would help if you post a couple of pictures of your engine, and one of the part you want. Then it is a matter of luck whether someone has the exact part and doesn't need it. We have quite a few people who build up a stock of old parts over the years.

Just did a bit of research & found part of my problem. The plug lead has broken off ht pickup & i found that they sell the ht pickup minus the plug lead so there must be a way to replace lead into pickup. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hello darron, the ht lead is held into the pickup[ht terminal] by a screw.by
unscrewing the pickup from the armature backing plate there should be a spring with a screw up the centre and a plunger.be careful when unscrewing the pickup as they tend to become very brittle and break up easy. the ht lead is then pushed
through the pickup and the screw with spring is then screwed back into the ht
lead wire end.push the plunger back into the end of the spring and screw the ht
lead and pickup back into the backing plate. regards john

Are the breaker points clean and flat, and do they open by the right amount?

And is that one of those nefarious Villiers that have the flywheel on a taper with no keyway, so the ignition timing can easily be wrong? (Most types have a key, but I had one once on an old 12" ATCO that had no key or keyway - it was a pain in the backside to time).

I have a very similar engine on an old motorbike in my fathers shed, as for the internal workings I dont know about the magneto etc, my grandfather restored it in the 70's and it never got used, when I got it handed down after 25+ years of not being started all we did was hook up an external fuel source (the tank had rusted pretty badly somewhat) and it went on the second kick.
