Pulled this motor apart for a clean up a while back.
The starter was trashed, i fixed that but never got any further.
I now have a frame for it to go on.

Cleaned the carb up, mixture screw was gunked up.

I remember thinking at the time that this one barb was in a funny spot.

What goes on the brass barb, or where is it meant to go too??? It had nothing on it. The bottom part of the air filter housing that bolts to the carb was oily filthy too and coverd in gunge. Gave it a wash.

99772-061801 is the model number.
Heres the cover/tank.

The nut wouldnt come off the top of the air cleaner post. Had to cut away the plastic with a stanley knife to get at the nut embedded within. Got a spanner on it and proceded to snap the little threaded bit of stud off the top.
So i will have to drill it out and tap a thread in it tomorrow. See how straight and square i can drill it.

Bob, the brass barb has only air-cleaner-restriction vacuum on it, so it seems fairly certain to be the crankcase breather connection. The other end of the pipe should go to a similar barb on the crankcase or valve chest.

Looking at the parts list i think it goes to nothing. It just shows a hose with a 90deg bend and says breather hose. In the first pic is the breather tube from the valve chest, it goes on a rubber hose thats on the back of the air cleaner holder.

I am fairly sure that it had nothing at all on it when i pulled the carb off, which i thought was strange. If its just meant to have a bit of hose on it with a 90deg bend so it points down i am sure i can sort something.

I fixed the air cleaner mount stud.

I was a bit ticked off when i broke it. It took a while with the stanley knife excavating the plastic to find that nut. Only to put a spanner on it and bust the stud off.

The bolt/screw is stainless, it was one of the ones that used to hold the trim pannels in the back of my old Rodeo.

Damn pull start. 3 times i fixed it and it stuffed up again last night doing a spark check. Was one of the ones with the hollow roll pin. Got the sads, grabbed a later one with the covered top and plastic engagement 'legs', swapped the cup over but i had to grind a little off the top of the crank.

Then when i had it all together and was putting that top trim cover on, i dropped the screw so then i had to strip the stuff off again to find it. lol.

Got some new fuel line before, so i will know if it goes this arvo.

Got about 10 things on the go and ive got the flu so maybe not til tomorrow.

Cheers, Bob.

You shouldn't leave an open connection to the clean side of the air cleaner, because it will suck in dust. They may have had two different models: one drew the clean air for the breather from a fitting on the carburetor, and the other from a fitting on the clean side of the air cleaner housing. Then someone swapped your air cleaner for the wrong one, so you had both types of fitting. Just block up the one you don't want to use.

Im not sure where the passage went. It says its a vent. Its in the front of the carb before the venturi so there wont be any suction.

I was thining it might be a vent for the fuel bowl but that would need to be filtered so why would it be external.

I tipped some fuel in it and it took a few pulls and off it went. Only took a few as i put on the choke and first pull it didnt want to start and the choke went off and i didnt realise. I havent got a cable hooked up.

It was blowing a bit of smoke, so tommorow i will get it out in the daylight and give it a good run to see what it does. It sounded pretty good.
If it runs Ok, its onto the rover base and i will have to order an air filter.

That vent doesn't look external to me Bob, it seems to go to the carburetor intake, which means it is on the clean side of the air cleaner. The air cleaner restricts the air flow a bit, so that barb will always be sucking dirty air, especially at full throttle. It could be used for a float bowl vent, but it's a hundred times too big, and anyway float bowl vents usually go to the open air so you can see if it is flooding.

Its a big barb but its not a big hole and when i was cleaning the carb i didnt pay too much attention as i had a hard time blowing anything through it.

Id say its the fuel bowl vent then.

I started it and ran it for a bit. Cleared up Ok. Was blowing a bit of soot but then it hasnt got an air cleaner on it.

Unbolted the motor, well went to unbolt the blade holder and its a one piece deal. With the blades swung back its short enough to get the motor off the frame. Put the motor on the Rover frame, yeah the blades hit and only just. So im going to have to go buy a 2 leg puller and try and get the blade boss off to put a Rover one on it.
