I picked up a Alpina chainsaw, not sure of the model looks like a Pro70S, has no spark or compression. Stripped it down the problem was the rings were stuck in the grooves , they broke trying to remove them. Next problem was trying to find 51mm rings (easy if you live in USA)I've ordered 52mm rings I'll make them fit. ![[Linked Image from i4.photobucket.com]](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/bolow/PICT0065Medium.jpg) The next one is a Stihl S10,has spark but low compression, I removed the muffler, the piston/ cylinder looks ok hopefully it just needs new rings, wont take much to strip the paint on this one ![[Linked Image from i4.photobucket.com]](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/bolow/LHMedium-1.jpg) gmax

The Alpina is all finished, I ground 3mm off the ends of the 52mm piston rings, worked out well runs nice. ![[Linked Image from i4.photobucket.com]](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/bolow/LHMedium-4.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i4.photobucket.com]](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/bolow/RHMedium-3.jpg) The Stihl S10 needs new rings, which are on the way from the US, I noticed some bright spark welded the sprocket nut to the crank . My guess is they didn't realize it's a left hand thread & stripped the thread on the nut, anyway I ground the weld off then removed the nut with a rattle gun. The crank thread looks ok just need a new nut. ![[Linked Image from i4.photobucket.com]](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/bolow/PICT0070Medium.jpg) cheers gmax

Hey Wayne, great to see that you got around the ring prob ok,and all is well....I can't believe some idiot welded the nut to the crank on the Stihl....but I guess "necessity is the mother of invention" I once restored a 1922 Model 'T' Ford and on stripping the engine down, we found one piston made of ironbark wood with galvanised metal sheet cut to size and tacked to the top, where the spark plug had burnt a hole right through!! Cow-cockies would often come up with solutions during the Great Depression

Rather than just buying a new nut he just welded it back on after stripping the thread, he must have thought the sprocket would last forever It's all sripped down, just waiting on a pair of rings & a new nut, if it runs ok I will paint it. gmax
