Hi all you knowledgeable Tecumseh folks. I have a 13.5hp OHV that needs some TLC. But first... can some tell me how to remove the ring and cup screen on top of the flywheel please?
Hi Norm, Max, Thanks for answering me. As I can't yet post a picture, can you have a look at post number 11 from Paul Foot to Grumpy showing a picture of the motor. It is exactly the same as my motor. Here's the link to the thread.
I worked out how to get to the flywheel nut but ...
Here's another tricky one for you. I need to buy a socket to remove the flywheel nut but nowhere on the net can I find what size it should be. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers
Rob
P.S. This has all come about due to the darned decompression not working so I'm trying to get to the camshaft.
Hi Max. Yeah. Did that. It's a 1-1/8" socket. I've got the flywheel off. I have to take the motor off the mower to get to the crankcase BUGGER! The last thing I want to do is replace the camshaft. I probably couldn't get one anyway! Thanks for you help and suggestions mate. I'll post my results when it's sorted.
Yes Max, I did 2 of those one on a flathead and one on an OHV. That one was more difficult because I had to make sure I missed the valve seats and the inlet tunnel across the head. Anyway in the end both run fine
Hi Rob, do you have any history on this motor? Did it run fine, just couldn't start it because of the decomp? Being Tecumesh I'm not sure what parts are available. If the motor runs fine when started I think the Victa decomp valve may be the best option
Hi Norm, Yeah, the motor ran fine. I do like the idea of the Victa decomp valve. Do you have any idea which one would suit the 13.5hp Tecumseh? Also, any help on where and how to fit the valve would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Hi Rob, I used a decomp off a full crank Victa but I also had to make an extension piece as well so I could get out far enough to clear the rocker cover, can't remember exactly how I did it . I guess if you made the extension piece long enough you could use a Powertorque decomp valve. I it one of those things you have to suck and see but it can be done. The one I did was on a Briggs OHV but the Tecumesh would be similar I think. Wherein Vic is Raywood, I haven't looked it up? Ok looked it up it is the otherside of Bendigo so that is going to make it difficult
