Hi folks, I have been playing with my Husky LTH130 Ride On and have rewired it very, simply as a Mud Mower. No Safety Switches, No Deck, No Electric Clutch & No Headlights.

It has a 13hp Briggs Engine and I use a Push Button to Start it and a Kill Switch to Stop it.

I'm trying to work out where to connect to red & black wires form the Alternator so it will charge the battery while it's running.

A 12 volt auto elec, told me after looking at the Husqvarna LTH130 Factory wiring diagram that the Red wire (with the diode) connects to the battery side of the Solenoid and the Black with to earth. But all that did was make the alternator smoke.

So I have fitted a new one and don't want to burn that one out.

Hence me seeking help from those in the know...

I have (hopefully) attached a simple wiring diagram that works but with the battery charging option.

I thought that maybe the Factory Wiring Diagram might also be helpful here.

Dual Circuit system that offers a red wire DC for battery charging and
the black AC wire is positive to power the lights


The red wire typically carries this AC voltage to the diode, which allows current to flow in only one direction (rectifying the current). The output from the diode (now DC) is then routed to a voltage regulator (or rectifier/regulator) that ensures a stable voltage output to charge the battery and power the electrical components of the mower.

Hi Maxwestern, thanks so much for your reply here.. My issue is there is no voltage regulator fitted to the ride on mower nor is there one I can find in the factory wiring diagram that I provided above. When I stripped out all the factory wiring & safety switches there was nothing that looked like a voltage regulator in the machine either. That's what has me stumped some what, as it was all working as per factory before the ignition switch failed and I decided to get rid of it and the rest.

The black wire from the Solenoid 2 pin plug, plugged it the other side of that connection to an orange wire which according to the factory wiring went back to the ignition switch to operate the lights.

Another question then..

Can I connect the red wire with the diode to the battery side of the solenoid so it can charge the battery when it's running and leave the black wire from the Alternator not connect to anything as I don't need to lights at all.?

If you have the stator that doesn't use the Voltage regulator then yes just connect the red wire to battery side of the solenoid and don't
use the black wire.

I have heard with diode only system it's 3 amps . The resulting pulsating DC can charge the battery, but because there is no regulation, the voltage can fluctuate with engine RPM. This means that while the battery is likely to receive charge when the engine is running, the voltage may vary and could go above what is safe for the battery if the engine runs at high RPM for long periods.



Stator with Diode and Rectifier/Regulator 5 amps: Other models may come equipped with a more complex setup that includes a rectifier and a regulator. In this configuration, the stator generates AC power that is rectified to DC and regulated to maintain a consistent voltage output suitable for charging the battery and powering electrical components without damaging them.



With a Mud Mower I would think you would be using high RPM for long periods .

I'd keep an eye of the battery as the overcharging may cause the battery to overheat, bulge, or even leak.

Hi again Maxwestern, Thanks so much for your ongoing help here. I'll connect the red wire only and keep an eye on the voltage at the battery. I might even fit a volt meter to make it easier. I've called it a mud mower for simplicity as per it's current wiring situation. When in fact it will be used by my young grandkids (4 under 10) on the family farm, to run a round on.
