Hi Max,
I got these rods from a bloke in Dandenong a couple of weeks ago for $10 a packet. They weld fine.

G'day Norm,

Ok thanks for letting me know as they are getting difficult to find at that price, not sure what kg they are.

I saw a guy in Brunswick selling SWEC 2 kg for $12 and 2.5 kg for $15.

Any rods with the AWS E6013 spec should be ok , some rods are easier to chip the slag off after welding.

Cheers
Max.

2.5 kg is good Norm ,I've seen these advertised in 1 kg , 2 kg and 2.5 kg.

A long time ago when I would weld up the left side of the Power Torque bases and put a patch of sheet steel over the rust hole,
I would use an oxy and acetylene welder then use bike spokes as welding rod, worked well and the rods (spokes) cost nothing .

Cheers
Max.

Hi Max,
Oxy welding these days is cost prohibitive
The other issue I have with these welding rods is how many do I need to cover the rest of my life and how long will this bloke have a supply of them. I might get another 3 packets, that should do me. laugh

It's ridiculous when there's a situation that it costs too much in materials to be worth doing your own welding. What's the world coming to?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Norm and Mf.

The gassless mig wire is cheap and makes welding up mower bases easy these days.

Norm ,I know of a Ariens mower and another half an Ariens for only 5 packs of those welding rods .If you are interested.

Cheers
Max
