All the 3 holes where the bolts are mounted on the engine starter cover coincidentally becomes unusable as it can no longer hold the bolts (See photo to make it clearer). I then fabricated from a metal sheet pieces to follow the contour of the cover and connected it using a number of rivets. Drilled a hole to suit the size of the bolts and successfuly mounted it back to the engine body,
There are 3 bolts that hold this starter cover to the engine body. However, i only have 2 of the original screws and the 3rd one i bought from the hardware store has a UNC thread measuring 1/4" by 3/4". The bolt fits in on engine hole and i can tighten it well but then when the engine is running, the bolt seems to loosen up so i was wandering if this is the right thread and measurement.

If they thread in cleanly without slop, it should be ok, i think they take unc.

have you got the star washers behind the bolts?

The pic shows the original and the replacement bolt i found. I tried putting a washer on the new bolt but the bolt and the washer must have come off whilst i was using the mower. Not sure though if this is a star washer. It's just a regular washer with a round whole.
