Those things were pared down within an inch of their life. They even deleted the essential metal plate underneath the base at the front that shields the axle from corrosive grass clipping accumulation, but more important helps complete the shape underneath to form the air vortex to direct the clippings into the catcher properly. Look at those holes for the rivets behind the front wheels on the side. They are for the metal plate. These were a seriously budget model.
A good thing to do is to get that plate of a wrecked mower with it on and transfer it over. It will make a huge improvement in cutting performance and improve body rigidity, another problem with this cheap and nasty edition of the range.
PS, I think they date from the early 2000s or thereabouts.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Kenny

There probably is a way, but I am not sure how to read it. I know genuine hondas are hard, not sure about these

These came out in about 2005 and ran through to (I think) 2008/9 when briggs bought out victa and axed the v40

Hope it helps

I notice this ultra budget base came with Tecumseh, Briggs or this V40 Chinese Honda based OHC engine.
The base is Chinese steel too. What a dream package.
Ok if you fit the missing steel piece and it doesn't rot on you.
