They are a wicked machine speedy and built so ruggedly. What surprises me is the ID plate stating 1996 I can't believe they were still making them by that stage. I would have thought OH&S regulations would have stopped production along with the cost of manufacturing them

1996 is just the closest match for the paint. I took one of the forrestry guards in to the paint shop and got it colour matched as the paint was protected by a layer of grease so was like new.

Hello 186565 and all Allen Oxford lovers
Post WWII the Allen was the most successful of the imported
sickle bar mowers that flooded these shores.

The rapid increase in urbanisation and advent of home
and small market gardeners required cheap land clearers.

Scott Bonnar got in early - late 1930s - and had an
established distribution network for the frenzy in the late 1940s
and 1950s.

The rotary would 'kill-off' the sickles by the 1960s.

The great thing here is that 186565 has given us a beautiful
visual record of a restoration.

Many thanks for helping folks to understand these much-
loved machines.

Cheers

Speedy - My name is Daryl. I was in the Army as a RAEME mechanic for 29 1/2 years so over half my life. Been medically discharged for just over 12 months. The restoration of the machine is on going but I had a few pics to post so I thought Id put it up

Nice, there is a lot of info on the net about them. I see the TS model came out between 1952 and 57...
Guess it a Villiers. Looks like it not far from a startup.
cheers

That engine looks like a Victa full crank. I might paint one up that colour and see how it looks poking out the side.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

The engine on the first photo (fitted to machine) is a victa (victa 18 I think). That was what was fitted when I picked it up. The original engine had no spark and was supplied not fitted. The painted up engine is the original Mk 25c villiers.

Nice paint job.
I've seen places on UK websites where you can get old Villiers parts.
Did you get the spark going?
cheers

Hi 186565

Very nice work, I love a good restoration. I am currently overhauling the same Villiers Mk25C that is fitted on another project of mine, they are a nice engine fitted with ball bearings for the crank.

Bringing this one back from the dead, it was locked solid in the bottom end due to water seeping in down through the top.

Yours looks great, I hope it has a good healthy spark now ðŸ‘
