I've never seen a store brand mid arch chassis Sunbeam before. That's a new one for me.

The only full cranks I have found in the last few years have been the SPFC, one alloy base Mustang and three steel base models.
You managed to find two cup starter full cranks in a matter of days.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I've never seen one either

2 spfc, 1 cup start, a few PT and plenty of Briggs

This was the cup start one - I should have put the Sunbeam in this shot but didn't

What an adorable Mayfair on the right. I like the chrome ended engine covers from this era. Much more substantial looking than their plastic replacements.

That poor old one has done a lot of work. Will probably re-ring it shortly even though it goes first kick. Came with the side chute as well

The old briggs (1979) goes first kick as well (the black soot is from running rich for years before I got it) but had some of the worst oil I have seen in it. It was like gear oil. Took 4 flushes before it even thought about being clear.

Good thing about sunbeam/Victa 2 strokes - no years of bad oil. Only problem is using poor quality oil

Much as I like the vertical Briggs, they just look so wrong on a Victa thumb latch base. They all seem to leave that sooty coating at the rear. I am not a fan of having to set the throttle and walk to the front to start it either. These are the sort of mower I want to move on if I find it.

Hi MF,
Yes those Briggs pumping the smoke onto the high arch is a pain and it takes a lot to remove it. I did one many years ago and I used a 1/2 inch M&F elbow and the turned the muffler out to the side, big improvement

Hahaha NormK I was thinking what about putting one of those lid exhausts you see on trucks but you came up with a realistic solution. If the blackening issue is resolved, I wouldn't mind them so much.

Hi all

Lots of interesting discussion here, yes Max the orange sunbeam is a lovely looking base, I got this one mainly for the wheels which are in great nic thinking I would put them on the Fastcut, this was the day I learn't that Victa Sunbeam and Sunbeam have different axle sizes so Ill put the wheels back onto this one.

Cheers
wce

Hi MF

The engine came off a SB, the sticker is still on the cowling. The engine doesn't look out of place on the base.

Hey wce,

it looks great even with the rustic look going on. Was that originally a four stroke?

I would think it was most likely a 160 2 stroke MF, the mower looks pretty sharp with the original wheels with orange caps on it.

How was the four fitted? Careful marking and drilling?
A Powertorque should be made to fit on that basis. It would look weird as that engine has a futuristic look to it and this base looks overtly vintage in appearance.

G'day all

I've had a few mowers over the years with elbow pipe fittings on the exhaust outlet to redirect exhaust gases like what Norm mentioned.

Yes WCE ,I do like the orange Sunbeam mowers, I have wanted to find the 2 stroke version with no luck ,I do know someone that had the
4 stroke one and wanted $30 for it ,I may have to buy a 4 stroke Sunbeam for the front badge so I can make a 2 stroke orange
Sunbeam.

Mf ,the bases are different for the 2 stroke and the 4 stroke orange Sunbeam mowers ,you can't just re drill them.
The 4 stroke has a large centre hole and the 2 has the much smaller hole.

Yes the orange based Sunbeam mowers came out 4 and 2 stroke.

Here are some 2 stroke images I stole from somewhere ,not sure if someone here owns this mower.

That was a little strange finding 3 cup start and 2 side pull Victa mowers in 2 days but no mowers were found today.

Very nice the 2 Monaro mowers Tyler.
Cheers
Max.

Hi Max,
As we are only allowed to leave the house for 3 reasons, food, exercise for one hour, and work. I have always considered my mowers as a hobby, but I wonder how I would get on if I started calling it "work" Might be a bit hard to get the correct work paperwork to show the police though.

Victorians are allowed to leave the house for any essential items ,that means if you get pulled over and get asked what you are doing,
you just need an excuse ,like buying firewood for heating .

I would think to get paperwork to show the police you would need an ABN number if working for yourself.

With stage 3 you could go where you liked it wasn't policed ,if you got pulled over in stage 3 you just said you were working.

Norm you can go out in a 5 km radius , if you are asked just say you are going to the shops to get food.

Yes WCE they had a Briggs and Stratton motor, 3 or 3.5 hp side pull start.

Cheers

I think the way the police acted with that blonde pregnant woman in the news for merely making a post about a proposed protest was ridiculous. Why aren't they so zealous on the African gangs? Oh that's right, they aren't sacred cows of the far left establishment.

Reminds me of a TV show on a few months ago. 2 cops look at the african gang members fighting

"should we arrest them?"
"Nah, remember the last time - we had to get an interpreter in and then work out how to spell their names in english with all the ticks, clunks and clicks" haha

By the way Norm, the business name 'Norm the Victa Fixa' has a nice ring to it

But then you need to do tax returns, although you could then buy from Jakmax spares. GA don't want to know you unless you have a bricks and mortar shop, plus at minimum 1 brand name product being sold (preferably 2). Jakmax seem much more amiable.

I have been thinking about this as there are other perks to having an ABN, but still considering as the last thing I need is the damn taxman on my back.
