I picked up this pace but some things look ok and some don't to me. Was bitterly dissapointed after being told the catcher was in perfect condition to find out when I got there it has cracks etc, is it that hard to be honest when advertising things for sale ! Anyway here it is, the engine number 6 60925 seams to be lacking a number between the two 6's but on closer inspection there is possibly a soft punched 7? making it a 76 model ? I'm not sure about the carby set up at all, the snorkel and throttle control would appear to be on the correct side of the handle bars ( which do look like pace ) as there is no holes drilled on the other side unless the bars have been changed. The carby looks to be reversed to the normal set up I've seen and the cover doe's not have a primer bulb. The person selling was certain that it started very easily but after he pulled the starter about 25 times I invoked the mercy rule before he did himself a mischief. Your comments please. Thanks wce
Don't know where you find these as I rarely find anything decent on gumtree
Carby set up looks about right - the early g4's had no primer, but you can make a remote one easily enough from an old lm cap with perished primer bulb
Also curious about the paint daub on the crankcase
looks like someone has done some work - the kill wire wouldn't be attached to the head bolt, and the kill wire boot is missing
My late grandmother had this exact mower. This has the wrong wheels. The ones on MW's are the right style and I recall the hubcaps just had the letter v stamped in the centre like other Victa models of the time. I fitted a primer cap to it. Was not impressed with the heavy feel pushing it compared to my VC Mustang with ball bearing wheels which is why I turned it down all this years ago when nan offered it to me. I was crazy!
While you were mislead on the catcher condition, which was a garbage move, the chassis looks excellent. The left side is nearly always worn to some degree. The annoying thing with this model is the catcher it specific in colour and name stamping and is relatively rare over the black Victa in this style.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Oh, so it was you who picked this up from the deceased estate advertised on Gumtree? At least it went to a good home! Good score, even if the catcher isn't perfect. It looked very clean. I ummed and ahhhed, and it was gone quick smart!
I also dipped out on a Utility and INGS edger yesterday. Man these things move quick over here.
I don't collect mowers. I just require Multiple Mowing Solutions™.
I need to find more room not more mowers, Ill thin a few out. I haven't seen this non primer carby before so it should start just on the cold start setting, it fires with fuel straight in the cylinder so probably has stale fuel etc. The paint daub is interesting, if it has been re painted it was a very good job with no paint evident on any other parts and the decals on the deck must have been replaced as the paint under them is the same.
The wheel caps are unbranded Max
Interesting comment on the mower feeling heavy to push Mowerfreak, I was surprised at how easy this machine is to push and maneuver and is on par with my Mustang in this regard, maybe it's the change of wheels ?
Yep, that's the one Mystyler, wasn't feeling to cleaver about it on the way home but at least I now know it isn't a butchered up bitsa so that's a relief. PM me if you are interested in Ings edgers.
Hi wce, there you go. Even though those are not a ball bearing wheel either, they are much lighter than the originals and that alone makes a difference. I have a steel FC mower with those on and it's easy to push from memory. I have a similar hi arch with the heavier nylon sleeve wheels and it also feels sluggish to push in grass just like I recall the Pace Premier felt.
If only I knew to swap the wheels!
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Yes wce, the narrower wheels dig in abit I think. The last thumblatch catchers used on the PT alloy mowers will fit this mower and are both lighter and larger in capacity as well as having a twin grip. They seem to stand up to use better without cracking.

I am exactly the same wce - have practically reached capacity
Mystyler, I also ummed and arghed (if thats how you spell it) about that 160 G3 ute and yellow engined briggs edger (I thought it was alroh) combo, but decided against it as 1, I already have 3 alrohs, and 2 I need to catch mow the lawns and the limited council verge slashing duties are easily taken care of by the big bob
Was in the shed this afternoon and had another look at the pace and popped a wheel off, they are ball bearing wheels and the width is the same as my Mustang, 400 electric, Concorde etc. Looks can be deceiving. The wheel caps are the same also. Interestingly the tread on these wheels is stepped from the outside to centre in increments of a couple of millimeters with the grey strip in the middle being the highest point. Not sure what to make out of it /
Got the Pace out this afternoon, drained the fuel. gentle blow of air back up to the tank in case the filter screen was a bit clogged, fresh fuel in, starts first pull and run's mint, throttle control from low idle to full tilt and quiet as a mouse for a two stroke.
Saw another pace for sale today, steel base but the exact same wheels as mine so do think they may be the originals ?
Since I've been using an SB I must admit the finish is a lot cleaner and doesn't leave the dried out look that the rotaries do but that is to be expected given the obvious different methods of cutting. I do occasionally run a rotary over the Buffalo to take the Stolons off the surface so I might have to organise a roster system.

Definitely not original wheels or hub caps on your Pace Premier wce ,my two prem mowers were missing a few caps when I acquired them so I thought the original caps may have the Pace symbol in the centre of the caps but MF mentioned the V caps on this model and the Pace mower ad for 1977 mentions Victa so it would make sense that the later Pace models used Victa caps .One Pace mower above came from the original owner from new so I know the wheels are correct and you can see the wheels in the ad below.
Funny how Victa mixed and matched with their features. Low arches with comfort grip handles and 160cc engines. Hi arches with the lot or with lowest tier features like 125cc engines, basic handles and nylon sleeve bearing wheels or something in between like the Pace Premier with high arch base, comfier handles, nylon bearing wheels and 160 engine.

Mystyler, not to mention mowers like the VC-125 in the early 70s with high arch, 125, nylon wheels and painted not chrome comfort grip handles. Side pull full cranks with points ignition on thumb latch high arch bases with ball bearing wheels and comfort grip handles yet models with electronic ignition and bare bones features. How did the average consumer navigate it?
