Hi all,
Servicing the carburetor on my Victa Vortex (running not well), but after cleaning everything and putting it back together, the throttle cable keeps jamming as I move it from Run > Stop, and back again. When I remove the washer from the top of the diaphragm, it's fine, moving run > stop and back feel fine, smooth, it's only when I put the washer on.
I've checked many times that the lifter is seated correctly, it is. I checked that the cable is inserted into the cam correctly, it is. I checked the cable itself, a little rough/aged, but it still seems to move in/out ok without getting stuck. tried installing the washer both ways just in case, no change, still stuck. Everything looks fine (to me), but it's when I put the washer in, for some reason, the throttle doesn't like it.
Has anyone experienced this before or know what it might be? I serviced the same carb on my Tiger the other week, didn't recall there being any issues putting it back together. This has me stumped.

It is the built in Victa failure feature responsible for the destruction of countless numbers of Victas because of this dumb assed feature that was dreampt up over too many long lunches at the pub by the design engineers.Ho any sane person could come up with that idiotic design beggars belief. I hope you understand I now feel better. Three things cause the cable to jamb, one is the kill switch rubber and the other is the insane hump on the cam, that is real nutty territory. The third is that you have bent the cable when you have been fitting it back into the carby housing

Haha, thanks Norm . I 'think' I found the issue. I believe I installed the diaphragm upside down :/, I just flipped it around and seemed to be ok. I'll double check tomorrow with it all connected and see how it goes. Do you happen to know the part number for the small spring between the lifter and diaphragm ? I stepped on mine

Hi Widget
CR03454A or CR03642A seems to be the genuine number, Cam533 is the GA number

Hi Widget, no idea about the springs, I cut the big one in half and cut one half a bit shorter and use that one under the diaphragm, seems to work ok for me.

Hi,
You haven't got the cable too tight have you. I find it works best just on the first notch not the second. It kind of looks like it should be on the second though. Also the inner cable needs to be almost straight where it protrudes at the bottom end. I have had to reshape a few so they work better. As Norm says they work much better if you do his carby mod which gets rid of the choke and makes the cable path much better. Start on full throttle.then.

Hi Jeff, I only use the first notch I found that once you fit the 3 washers under the cam and then try and fit the cable into the second notch you have to bend the cable and this them causes another resistance in the cable and it won'work smoothly. This is all caused by Victa putting a lump on the cam that was totally useless and problematic

Jeff I don't think the cable is too tight, I had it tightened up at half way so the lever can go full stop/run. When I set to top, it would go fully down. Bottom wouldn't go full top. Ill have a fiddle and see if it makes a difference though. Cables straight, works properly now, I had the diaphragm around the wrong way. Still runs poorly after a little while of use, then won't start. I have new o-rings coming so i'll do another clean, and replace the o-rings then. I do recall a small brass washer though that sits under the cam. can't remember if i re-installed that, might have to get a couple of spares.

Hi Widget, I have only ever swapped out one "O" ring on the inlet manifold and that was because it had a chunk out of it. The washer under the cam is to help shut the poppet to bring the idle down, another mod because the so called design engineers put lumps on top of the cam. I sometimes change the "0" ring on the starter depending on how I feel, sometimes I just put a smear of silicone on it, works fine

Cleaned up the carb on the Vortex, replaced the o-ring on the plastic piece that connects the carb to the engine. (not sure what it's called). Seems to work ok, throttle is mostly fine, though a tad erratic.
I have a Victa Tiger though, same engine/carb by the looks of it. Cleaned that up, only issue was, Full throttle seems like it's only revving at half of what it should be. Suggestions ?
Another thing, the plastic valves have letters on the underside (flat part) A, B, C. Apparently these are meant to be set correctly? I thought I read the powertorques need to be set to 'A', is this true?

Wasn't sure what it was called, read a couple of Victa manuals I have, and it mentioned a couple names for it. Ill have to remember for next time.
